hello everyone! decided to start a thread for those of you and me who are applying for the twu con houston in 2012 as a second degree.i am looking to apply at the houston location because i live in houston. i have a couple of questions to ask and would like as much knowledge as i can get, specially from current/recently graduated twu-con student, will help very much!! thank you in advance!!:)
1. so if im not mistaken, when applying as a second degree at the twu-houston they only calculate the gpa of the classes listed on the post baccalaureate profile worksheet? nothing else from your previous degree courses?
2. i know every semester is it different because of the pool of applicants, but what is average gpa for the people who get into con in houston? i called the school and they said they will look at applications 3.5 and higher. so does that mean mean my chances of getting in with a 3.5 is good or thats just the minimum? and whats the average amount of applicants?
2. i am currently a student at uh and will be graduating in may with a kinesiology degree. does it make a difference when you are applying as a second degree? does it "look better", or could they care less?
3. i noticed on the checklist it says "second degree students: previous course work from first degree will not appear on the twu transcript. only post baccalaureate grades will appear on twu transcripts of 2nd degree students"
so does this mean the courses i took like a&p 1 and 2, micro and all the other courses that are on the post baccalaureate profile worksheet mean you have to have taken them after you have graduated?
4. i noticed on the post baccalaureate profile worksheet it has a list that says "a on the first attempt of a&p 1..a&p2...microbiology..and statistics" do they really take that into consideration. i plan on retaking some of these classes over the summer so just wondering if this "list" really makes a difference?
once again thanks in advance for all the help and sorry for the list of questions!

Hey,
I'm applying to the CON as well for the Spring...
Do you happen to know when that application opens? ...if it isn't already?
I know it closes September 1st, but I didn't know when the earliest I could apply was.
Thanks!

It is actually already available from what I have seen in my pioneer portal.

Hello Everyone!
I applied as a second degree student to TWU CON for fall 2011 and was accepted.
We also started a thread which may help but it is very long. But i'll try to answer any questions you guys have.
Before you can apply to the nursing program, you need to apply to the school for undergrad/second degree admission. I suggest you do this early because it can take a few months to process that application.
After you have applied to the school, set up a pioneer portal account. The portal has an option WebAdvisor which will let you track your admission to the school and the transcripts they have received, it will not tell you admission to the nursing program however, that will come in your twu email. If you apply as a second degree student, your course work will not show up on the portal unless you took it after you got your degree. The Science courses have a 5 year rule, if you took the courses 5 years ago or longer you will need to retake it unless you have science degree.
Once you have been admitted to the school, go to my tools on the pioneer portal homepage and click on the option "Apply to TWU nursing college of nursing". I really recommend completing all of this atleast a month before the deadline and call the school to make sure they received all your transcripts. If the school is missing any transcript after the deadline has passed, they will throw your application out, it happened to one of my friends.
In addition to that, you also need to take the TEAS V. I brought the ati study manual and online assessment forms. The manual really really helped me. And the online assessment forms are the same layout as the actual exams. It is a bit pricey especially since the test itself is $100 but if you can afford it, I suggest you get the study manual. One other thing about the TEAS, you can only take it once during the application period so I would study hard for this test.
TWU calculates GPA based on the classes listed on their website. For second degree students, I believe they require 11 classes which is 37 hours. Certain classes must be completed before you apply to the program and you must complete atleast 25 hours of the required course work before applying.
Admission is based on GPA and TEAS V score. You get extra points if you made an A grade on your first attempt for A&P 1 and 2, microbiology, and statistics and if you have all your pre-reqs complete. It does not matter what you got your degree in or where you took your classes. It also does not matter what other classes you took, only the ones listed on the post baccalaureate profile worksheet are the ones that matter. There are no interviews or letter or recommendations. You can also retake classes to bring your GPA up and it wont count against you.
My GPA was 3.8 and my TEAS V score was 92. There were students who applied for the fall 2011 semester with GPA of 3.5 and they were waitlisted. Most the students who posted on thread had GPA of 3.8 and some had 4.0, but it really depends on the applicants who apply with you.
I hope this super long post helps! Hang in there and best of luck!!!
I leave you with this dancing baby for encouragement! Lol!

this is my first post!
Thank you for the helpful info MNB88!
I know TWU requires statistics, I took Psych statistics and UH, does this count toward the requirement? Also do you choose desired location (Denton or Houston) you want to enter in Spring 2012? I heard about a computer literacy class, is that required of us too?
