I am currently residing in NYS and unfortunately was convicted of a DWI in 2021. I've had no prior arrests and that's the only thing on my record. I am not proud of my mistake and have learned from it. However, I am applying to nursing schools in NY but so far they are telling me I may not sit for NCLEX as NYS decides who sits for it with a conviction. I also may not be able to do my clinicals because hospitals may not accept me with a DWI. I am currently working for a hospital and had no issue getting in. Has anyone experience something like this? I am feeling defeated and maybe realizing nursing may no longer be a dream I can fulfill due to my criminal record. I've read on other situations like this but not NYS. Any guidance would be appreciated.
