I got a DWAI a year and a half ago and just signed my contract with PAS last week. I have been working as a travel nurse in the same ICU for almost 2 years. My manager really wanted to hire me on as core staff, and I was open with her about my DWAI and she was really understanding and helpful. Once I knew my stipulations of my contract she checked with HR to see if they would even hire me. I work at a Banner Health hospital, and the in house HR lady was favorable to hiring me, but it was escalated to a few higher levels and they just got back to my manager and said I wouldn't be offered a job as core staff. I am heartbroken to say the least, but now I am also stressed about finding a new job. Any suggestions on places to apply at? I live in Colorado if that helps anyone's answers at all. My only restrictions are no home health, no travel nursing, and I can only have one job and only in the state of Colorado. I'm really struggling these last few days to stay positive but it's hard after losing my favorite job. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Places will hire you. Try dialysis, psych. Apply broadly

Long term care will hire. Private doctor offices. Just have to think about your options

I applied to an LTAC out of desperation and they were eager to hire an experienced ICU nurse in their critical care area. It ended up being a great job for five years and then I decided to move on back to acute care ICU. Good luck!

There are nurses in my program who are hired in medical surgical units, dialysis, case management, and corrections.

Your restrictions are few compared to many nurses. Saturate the market with applications. Place 25 applications and set a goal to place 5 apps per day. The problem will not be with individual nurse managers who would be willing to hire you, it's Human Resources/Risk Management. As mentioned, Dialysis would be about automatic for you since you have ICU background. Consider Outpatient Surgery Centers and working in PACU since you have an ICU background. Mental Health of course, but if you live in a city or near one, the local community care (low cost) clinic that caters to undeserved populations.
