Applying to Boise State

U.S.A. Idaho

Published

Hi,

I recently applied to BSU for the Spring semester of 08'. How hard is it to enter thr program? I am applying as an LPN. I'm hoping to go through the LPN-BSN bridge. Any advice?

thanks

Wow! Thats alot of people that apply. 60 is still way more than the amount of people that get accepted here which is 30-40.

Oh man, can't wait to do all those things. That all sounds awesome. Its what were looking foward to. Maui is really beautiful and the people are amazing but theres not a whole lot to do. The most exciting thing here are the beaches but after 10 years it gets kinda old.

Anyways I'll keep you posted cause I'm sending in everything on Aug. to the Nursing Dept. so I'll let you know whats up.

Thanks for all your help. Please feel free to let me know whatever.

thanks again

So I got my letter and I'm placed 4 on the waitlist. What should I do in the mean time regarding my classes? It seems like I took all my prereqs except for 2.

Well, I know that the classes and requirements have changed. I am not sure how much though. I can't remember if you are going for your bachelors degree or not. If you are, there may be some class listed in the "calendar" of class scheduling you may have received. It show what you should be taking 1st semester, 2nd semester, and so on. In the later semesters (somewhere in 6th through 8th) there are nurse elective credits required. You cound focus on getting some of those credit out of the way. Also, of course, take the prereqs that you don't have yet. If you don't have this "calendar" that I mentioned, it should be located on the BSU website somewhere. It may take some searching. I think it might be on the Nursing Department website. Hope this helps! If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

Hey there again,

So were getting ready for the big move in Dec to Boise and I was wondering if there are any places you would recommend for me to apply as an LPN. I'm planning to work in school as an LPN part-time so what companies should I look at or research????

Thanks so much for your help

Trish

Hey. How exciting! I would check employment at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center and St. Luke's Regional Medical Center. This morning I checked with St. Als and they had an opening for LPN. Also you could try boisehelpwanted.com. You could try the local nursing homes such as Life Care of Idaho, Boise Samaritan, Sunbridge. Hope this helps! I graduate in Dec. Yeah!! Let me know if you have any more questions or if I can help in any way.

Thanks so much.... hey, what you graduating with? Your ADN or BSN?

I am graduating with my ADN. My husband and I are going to start trying for a baby and I don't want to be in school for that. If I graduate now I can work until I deliver and can stay home for a while or work part time. I don't know how people manage to go to school and have kids at the same time. A lot of hard work. Maybe in the future I will take an online ADN to BSN course. But for now...there are plenty of jobs around here for ADN. BSN nurses are only paid about $.75 more per hour at the most which isn't worth another 3 semesters to me. Are you going for your BSN or ADN?

Thats cool! I'm 21 and my husband and I are ready for kids too, but I wanna go for my BSN, just to get it over with.... you know how that goes...I'm kinda drained from school but I just wanna finish it already. My husband seriously won't let me have kids in school, cause he sees how much work and stress is involved...I guess he's just looking out...Oh, well. I'll just have to wait 2 more years, hopefully, if I can get in this Spring. So yeah, he wants me to be completely done....

Hey thanks for everything, I'll give you a holla when we get there. We arrive at Seattle on Jan 14th from Europe and then driving our car down to Boise...so I have orientation on the 15th...

We're getting excited and scared at the same time!!!! My husband will be going to BOise Bible College.

okay, I'll talk to you later!

Hi again,

I have a question...My husband and I just applied for an apartment unit. We decided not to live on campus cause we really want to buy dogs as soon as we get there. Also, how much do LPNs get paid over there? We want to see just what we can afford before making any big commitments with the apartments. Thanks again.

Hey,

I am not sure about how much LPNs make but I can tell you how much graduate RNs are starting out at. Maybe that will give you an idea. Most of the local hospitals are starting out GNs at about $20.50 base. As for the apartment, I am sure that you have done all of the research on those particular apartments. Overall, Boise is a rather nice town. There are a few areas you would want to stay out of but that area is not one of them. It is not on the "outskirts" or anything. You will have plenty of closeby stores and eating.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anymore help or have anymore questions. I am happy to help!

Oh Yeah, I wanted to add....When I was looking on that website the costs per month were also listed. I just wanted to let you know that those prices are very fair. I don't know if you are going for a 1 bedroom or 2 but you couldn't find much less without sacrificing quality. This price is average for apartment rentals around here.

okay great! thanks so much. Over here its $1300 for a two bedroom which is what we're getting over there. Glad to know its safe cause we already turned in our deposit. We can't wait we are getting super excited, I still haven't found out if I have to reapply to the program or if I could get in, in January. Wow, so new RNs get paid $20 something dollars, isn't that kind of low, or not? Thanks again, you've been such a great help. Hopefully we'll see you when we get there. Thanks again. Laters!
