when to apply

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am applying to the nursing program at Wayne State in Michigan... I was wondering does it make sense to apply early while finishing with my pre-req's or apply when once I've completed my pre-req's??? I still have a few science classes to finish so I do not know how effective it would be to apply early... HELP!

I don't know about Michigan but here we had to be finished with all of our pre-reqs before we could even apply.

Good luck!

I can help here! As a Wayne Student, I can tell you that they only admit once a year for fall-- either you're in or you're out and if you don't make it you can apply again for the next fall. Since it's a once a year admit in or out thing there is no advantage to apply early and the admission basis is based on your GPA in prereqs and a strong overall transcript.

When will you finish your prereqs? You can take classes this summer, fall, and winter term to be eligible for fall 2009 admission. If you are going to finish with all of them before or during winter 2009 you should probably send in your app around jan or feb 2009. The deadline for the app (basically just a form online where you fill out your name, address, and schools you've attended) is always march 31 and the deadline to submit all your transcripts is june 1 which allows winter term courses to be counted.

The college of nursing holds information meetings once a month and I strongly urge you to attend one. The next one is June 10th at 10am if you can make it. If not check the website for the complete schedule http://www.nursing.wayne.edu

PM me if you have more specific questions etc. I know a lot about which profs are great for prereqs, which aren't, and can help you make a schedule. Although they say it will be possible to do the prereqs in 2 semesters it really is not.... In order to get into bio 2200 (micro) you will need to complete bio 1500 and 1510 (even though only 1510 is technically a prereq to the nursing program) and in the nursing schools suggested "prereq sequence" they fail to take that fact into account. So really you're going to be looking at 3 intense semesters of science heavy courses to finish all the prereqs but you may be done quicker since you it sounds like you already have some out of the way.

Again PM me with more specific questions or if you need help. I love Wayne and I'm always more than happy to help in anyway I can-- I hope you like Wayne too and good luck.
