Ok, so I am currently an LPN enrolled in school and working to get my ADN. After that I want to attend an ADN to BSN program at a college that is nearby and seems to have the best program for that. Federal grants will pay for most of my ADN schooling since it's an inexpensive community college, but the University I want to attend is fairly expensive.
So something just dawned on me the other day, that I hadn't previously thought of. My grandfather used to be a professor at the University. He died of cancer long ago when I was only 7 years old and they set up a scholarship in his name. My Dad, nor any of my aunts or uncles ever received a bachelors. And none of their kids have either. I would be the first. So should I apply for this? Is there an unspoken rule against applying for a scholarship set up in a family member's name? This may be a stupid question, but I figured I would get some opinions.

And why shouldn't you partake of this opportunity if you otherwise qualify? I say go ahead and apply. Look into it first, and make certain that there are not rules in place that preclude a member of your family from applying. Good luck.
