how to apply for new grad pos out of state

I'm graduating school this December, and I am eager to move away from NYC. Ideally I would like to move further south, like Baltimore or lower. Someplace with nice outdoors and nature and not too much crime or urban grit.

What's the best way to go about applying for new grad positions out of state? Many don't specify deadlines or dates. Should I start applying, say, in September and say I'll be taking my boards in January? How early is too early to start?

Also, should I just be honest when people ask me why I want to move? Or is there a better way to put it? To be honest, I'm sick of NYC- the noise, the dirtiness, the fact that anywhere you live is just down the street from housing projects. Not to mention paying absurd rent to live in a shoebox. And the rudeness, don't get me started.

Any suggestions on cities that are good for new grad positions that are nice to live in? It would be great to live somewhere that is not too urban, yet not in the middle of nowhere, if that makes sense.

Hey there, I'm in the same boat as you, except I'm in CO. I graduated in December with my BSN and am hearing that market here is very hard to crack. Any updates for you since May? I'd love to hear others' thoughts on how to apply for out of state positions...it's hard enough to network when you're in state ("don't call us, we'll call you"...), and that much harder when you're out of state.
