Hey all, I am planning a move to Nashville soon and I need some suggestions on good places to look for an apartment or condo. I'd love to be within walking/biking distance of Vandy if possible. I'm all the way in northern Indiana, so it's difficult to get a good idea of the area. As far as price, cheaper the better, but not too ghetto. I'm single, so I just need a 1 bedroom place. Thanks!

Hey, I lived in Nashville & worked @ Vandy for 3 years. You will love it! I lived downtown at the Cumberland...expensive, but I absolutely loved it! I paid 1100 for a small 1 bedroom..but I had amazing views of the city. Everything around Vanderbilt, especially within walking distance is pricy...as you will find out when you do your search. When I first moved to Nashville, I was shocked at how expensive their housing is. I do know people who lived in Bellevue & liked it, it's about a 15 min drive to work. But, for me, living 2 miles from work was worth the extra few hundred dollars. The closest areas to Vandy are Hillsboro, Green Hills, West End, the Belmont area, and downtown. There's a lot of different neighborhoods as you'll soon find out.
A lot of the Vandy students are rich from their parents money, so they can afford all the pricey apartments & condos in the area.
What is your price range?
Hey, thanks for the info. I'd love to stay as cheap as possible to help pay down my school debt asap, but I realize the area is expensive. If I could stay under $1000 I'd be happy, but I guess I will have to see if that is reasonable. I've heard nothing but good things about Vandy and the area. I look forward to it.
maybe the Gardens of Hillsboro Village. You can definitely walk to work if you live there. Very pretty, it's an old apartment complex but really nice apartments. Plus it's right where all the fun restaurants and bars are.

neurorachel is correct, anything within walking/biking distance to Vandy is going to be expensive. There are apartments directly across the road from the hospital, but i can't remember their name and I am sure they are super expensive. There are lots of condo's being built downtown, they have a modern feel and are going for a pretty penny according to craigslist.
I live in the Bellevue area and really like it. Bellevue (slightly west of Nashville), Hermitage, and Antioch are going to be your more affordable places to rent. The drive is 15-20 minutes to downtown. good luck and hopefully you'll love Nashville....it's a fairly large city with a small town feel.
