AORN Congress - anyone going?

Are you planning to go? or anyone been before? Its in March in Chicago.

I'd like to attend. However 2 barriers are time off and the expense. I'm sure there's a lot to gain from Congress. My director has given me some hope that there will be some funds in the education budget, but it's not "out yet". I work full time and getting 4-5 days off is a burden on our department. I do live near Chicago though, so transportation is affordable, but 4 nights in a hotel is a huge expense for anyone. I'll apply for grant from the Foundation after I learn what my hospital will contribute.

I'm going. This will be my second year. I went last year in Anaheim, that was my first year. I absolutely loved it!! It is so informative!! Let me know when you find out and maybe we could meet up there.

my employer is paying for it. I put it in my budget. I'm sure your employer would pay for it if they encourage AORN membership. I sure would at least ask. Me and another girl is going we are arriving on friday night and she is going to the laser certification class on sat and sun, and i am going to the management for new managers on saturday.

Of course! I love Congress and have gone for the past 8+ years. I do not always get help with the cost so I have learned to budget for education/travel, although that is sometimes tough nowadays. Yet for me, Congress gets me out into the world, I can network with tons of people, I always learn something new and valuable, and meet new friends. As for funding, keep trying; talk to the CNO and see if she has any ideas on how to get a grant or scholarship...often there is money available because they do budget for education but only the persistant get rewarded. So for me Congress is a priority...I just use PTO time so that I am guarntanteed to go! Hope to see you there!

Hey Knapper, thanks for the encouragement. I will keep trying for funds. Director says budget "is coming", hopefully with education allocations for me! Would love to meet you there.

Hey, The OR director has found money in the budget to send 2 staff and 1 service coordinator to Congress! What a great opportunity. I am getting a grant from the AORN Foundation as well.

You bet Nursing! We will be going to the medline breakfast. If you know anyone that works for medline ask them for tickets to the breakfast, I forget which morning it is. But it starts at 5:30 to 7:30. It will be fun. Also scanlon is having their big get together, I got a flyer in the mail for that. If you need info I can get it for you. It's all at work, but I can get it to you on Monday.
