Anyone working for St. Jude?

U.S.A. Tennessee

I am in my first semester of the RN program at ASU in Mountain Home, Arkansas. I have worked as a paramedic for 7 years, but I don't think the ER is where I want to go. I was just wondering if anyone worked at St. Jude, because I am leaning in that direction. I would love to be able to make a difference in a child's life. I just don't know if my heart will be able to take it. Any feedback would be helpful.

congrats on starting nursing school and thanks for being a paramedic for so long. i worked in the er for a while, and i realize what an awesome job y'all really do.

about st. jude, i have never personally worked there, but we went on a recruitment trip there during school. to my surprise, there are actually only about 60 inpatient beds in that huge facility. it is mostly outpatient and research. i don't know how far mountain home is from memphis, but if it is possible i would recommend you applying for an internship to get your foot in the door. if you need any additional information, please pm me, and i will get you a contact's name and email (my nsg mgmt professor is the cno at st. jude).

good luck in school! :)

St. Jude is a fabulous hospital to work for..great staff support, training, pay, scheduling and benefits. Not an employee, but I have several former co-workers that have gone there because of the above mentioned things. It is however a tough environment and not for everyone. The suggestion to work while a student is a great one. You would be able to take in the whole hospital experience before having to learn the ropes as an RN.

Mountain Home is a long commute to Memphis. Hopefully you will consider some type of living arrangement in the area if you pursue this.

Good luck!
