Anyone working in a Clinic for Monterey County?

I'm a foreign-educated and worked as an RN (in RP). I got my CA license in 2007.

Haven't worked in a hospital for 5 years and counting.

I've tried working in a nursing home for a few months, but it's not for me (short version of the story).

I was accepted in a hospital, but I wasn't able to finish my 1st week bec of personal and urgent

family matters. I resigned from both jobs.

My situation is different now, and frankly I don't feel prepared to work as an RN anymore. Unless I can be trained

longer than the usual time they give to newly hired personnel.

I would really like to have a refresher course or a versant program, but it's not available in Salinas, California.

I can't move because of my husband's job.

I'm thinking of getting a short course about Medical Assisting. I know this might be drastic for some, but I want to

work by next year. With the current freeze on hiring new graduates, there are really no

jobs left in nursing homes (I asked around, and did I mention I only consider this as a last and

desperate resort).

Please, I need your advice. Do you work in a Clinic for Monterey County? How about as a Public Health Nurse?

Do you think I can be accepted there as an RN (given my personal story), realistically speaking?

OR Should I go ahead and study Medical Assisting?

Please help me. I really need a mentor.

Don't waste your money or time on a medical assisting program. Your opportunities are greater as an RN. You will have to be very persisitent to get a job in Monterey County. Historically, there are few available jobs there. You may have to resort to the nursing homes for work. Consider it a way to get that needed experience.
