Anyone Worked @ Piedmont in ATL???

I don't work there, but hate to see a post drop to the next page especially when it's not too hard to answer a few questions...

A couple of my classmates went there under the scholarship, so I can tell you what their experiences were.

In general, you wouldn't float from L&D or M&B to the NICU. NICU is a very specialized area where you stay put. The first two may or may not float you since they can be relatively similar although you would need to be very proficient in monitoring and watching for critical changes in your patients. I know some hospitals will float between the two, but others won't. Don't know if that answer helped you. :mad:

I don't believe that Piedmont has scrub specifics for nursing as a whole. The women's center might have their own particulars such as pastels.

New grads can definitely get into those three areas. My classmates did. :)

L&D an NICU typically have 1:2 ratios (not including the fetus in L&D). M&B usually has a higher ratio closer to 1:5.

Hope some of this helps. Definitely call your recruiter or whoever offered you the scholarship. They can give you all the right answers to your questions. :up:

I cant really help w/ L&D M/B or NICU questions since I have never worked in these areas. But I did go through the ER residency program upon graduation, and can share some info about piedmont overall. All the nurses wear any combination of navy blue and/or white scrubs. As far as I know there is no onsite childcare. I would not hesitate from the piedmont scholarship program because you are worried about having to sign a 2 year contract. Because with most (not all, but most) hospitals will have to sign a contract anyways with your residency if you choose to do a residency in a specialty area. And I have found that piedmont will work with you with the contract. For example, if you take a job in L&D and find you dont like it ,you can change areas as long as you work at piedmont for your 2years. Overall, I think its a good place to work, and they pay above avg for the area, and most units you dont have to work any weekends because of the baylor program. I felt the residency was pretty good, I felt prepared to work in the ER when my residency was over.

Are the nurses required to wear certain color scrubs like at some other hospitals??

Yes, RN's wear navy blue or white scrubs and techs wear hunter green. L&D is the exception.

Is there onsite or nearby day-care?

No

Were you a piedmont scholar?

Yes

What's the likelihood of a new grad getting a position in one of the above mentioned units?

I know several new grads that started when I did and got into L&D.

Is there a standard nurseatient ratio?

Depends on the unit.

Anything else you would like to share about working at piedmont??

I absolutely love being part of the Piedmont family. The quality and standard of care is hands down the best.

Hi there-

I'm not a nurse yet, but hopefully will be starting a program this spring. Obviously then I don't work at Piedmont either but just wanted to share my birth story. I had my son at Piedmont last August. He was 5 weeks early and had to spend a week in the NICU. I have to say that both my Post-partum care nurses and the NICU nurses were (most of them anyway) absolutely amazing. A handful of the NICU nurses especially are part of the reason why I want to become a nurse. They are so caring and patient with you. I'm sure their work environment reflects on their temperments.

So I have nothing but praise for the L&D, maternity, & NICU nurses at Piedmont:) Thank you guys, if any of you are reading this!:redpinkhe
