Anyone work critical care at the Brigham?

Published

Anyone have any experiences working at the Brigham? Specifically in Cardiac ICU? I got a call from the Brigham since I gave my resume to the NM of the Cardiac Surgical ICU and HR left me a message yesterday to call them back. I'll call tomorrow and see what happens, maybe an interview? I'd like to know what Brigham is like if anyone can help in anyways. TIA! All responses greatly appreciated!

i do not have any experiences at BWH (on my wish list).....but wow what an opportunity......you are young with already 1.5+ yrs exp....seems like you are ready for the challenge....all the best to you..i say go for it!!!:yeah:

Thanks! :) I also applied to MGH....I know I won't get it though...in the SICU for permanent nights...just applied now...MGH is on my wish list as well...I really want to work there...it seems like everytime I apply there though they turn me down....I don't know..Anyways, yeah trying to look for a change...I mean I like BIDMC but...staffing issues are driving me insane...

Well I called Brigham yesterday..and it looks like they are looking for nurses on their new medical step-down unit they are opening in June I believe...day/night rotation 36 hour weeks. I've accepted the interview offer, but if I do get offered a position...I think I'm going to decline. Medical step-down is not really one of my interests, and I couldn't bear the thought of working days again...*sigh* I did apply to MGH for permanent nights in the SICU so I guess I'll wait and hear if I'll be considered. If not...staying at BIDMC is fine with me...just hope that staffing gets better...

That's the beauty of already having a job....when looking you don't feel pressured....

I hope you are offered the position at MGH......but if that does not work out....like you said you are already in a good hospital, it just has some kinks that need to be worked out and just a fyi...nowhere is perfect, staffing issues are everywhere.....

all the best to you.....

You're so lucky I have actually considered applying there but am a little intimidated by the commute and whether it would be worth it. Keep us updated! Good Luck

Wanted to give a quick update. I had the interview today. They actually called me an hour before the interview started to let me know where the interview was taking place...after they said they would call me a few days ago to let me know details..so I'm thinking I'll never have this interview..and I did- but LAST MINUTE! Interview overall went really well. Even though I felt totally unprepared for this interview, but I was calm throughout the entire thing. This is a general medical intermediate care unit, 1st part opening June 9th and the second part a month later. 1st part has I believe 16-18 beds. The second part will have 15. So you have a mostly medical floor. RN-pt ratio is 3 on days...on occasion 4 and I forget nights...2 PCA's on both shifts. The NM was really really nice. So they will let me know next week of their decision. Still not sure if I will accept, but it was a nice opportunity to interview. They will have a mix of experienced and new RN's. Guess we'll wait and see.
