Anyone using Meditech as their Health Information System?

Hi,

I am new to the field of Nursing Informatics and have recently taken a position as the Health Information Specialist at my hospital. I am specifically going to be working on the Module related to the Periop Center. I was wondering if anyone is using Meditech as their Health Information System. If so, I'd love to be in contact with you as a guide and reference as I start to build our system. Also, any advice anyone has on beginning a build and implementation would be great!

Thanks!

Welcome Shauna11,

To this Forum and to the specialty field of Nursing Informatics. You will find that the best skill you can cultivate within this specialty is doing your home work and being proactive in information and knowledge seeking. Do a search on this Forum using the term "Meditech"

This will return back content that other's have posted related to Meditech.

I have implemented multiple Meditech applications (including ORM and PCS) in several different settings over the last 10+ years.

Which module(s) will your PeriOp Center be implementing and what exactly will your role and responsibilities be?

PM or e-mail me with your specific questions plus please post your questions here to the Forum.

I'd also suggest you post to Meditech L

The listserve of Meditech users.

rninformatics,

Thanks for your response and offering to help me. I will definitely use you as a resource for questions and guidance throughout this process! I am very excited about this new position and am trying to gather as much knowledge, experience, and information I can. Do you have any suggestions in how to gain more knowledge and where to look, outside of the hands on experience?

I will be primariliy working on the ORM module. I am the "Team Lead" for the ORM module and have a fulltime position buildling and implementing this system. There are currently 5 other memebers of my team that will be helping me, but they will still be keeping their other job responsibilities. My experience is as a nurse in the OR, so the team will be helping me with other areas outside of the OR documentation, which is where my knowledge is more limited.

I will be managing the entire build of the ORM module, while helping to build the dictionaries, train, test, etc. I will be going to my dictionary training this week, and I am excited to acutally get started. I don't have a lot of specific questions as of yet, but know I will have plenty after this week. What are some things you suggest I learn, explore, etc in the meantime?

I think one of our biggest challanges in this build will be our item file. We currently have 4 different databases which are all different and completely contaminated. We have to pretty much start from scratch and rebulid an updated and current item file before we can even begin to input this into the Meditech system.
