Hi. I live in Buffalo,NY and I was wondering if anyone has or knows someone who has taken the BOCES (WALDEN Ave.) entrance exam? How was it? Some things that I can expect to be on it? Is it also orientation all in one or what did you do? Would it be too soon for me to take it in a week? I mean I graduated from Trocaire last year and had good grades. I probably have to brush up on my math though. THANKS!!!!!!!!

I did take the erie 1 boces exam about 2/3 years ago but decided not to go. There was cross multiplying and dividing fractions as well as decimals. We had to write an essay. Its nothing too in depth. The science is pretty basic. I'm sure if you graduated Trocaire then you can do this with ease. I did end up going to Niagara/Orleans BOCES (today was my last day yayyyy!!) & the entrance exam was pretty much the same. I'm just wondering if you don't mind my asking what did you study at Trocaire? Most people go there AFTER BOCES lol j/k.
Oh yea sorry I forgot. No, you don't have orientation the same day. You have to pass the exam then go through an interview and be accepted into the program before any orientation. Good luck!
Thanks! I started Trocaire in Fa 2007 straight out of high school, ended up switching majors (long story). I finally graduated in December 2010. I definitely did well but, had so many problems there. I wish I would have looked into BOCES sooner. Well a few months ago I started looking somewhat, but also applied to Trocaire's LPN program. I did get accepted for January to Trocaire, but from the looks of it Im not going there. I stopped trying for about a month becasue I went to Trocaire and the program director was useless. Its the same director I had before in my program. She didnt really tell me anything, kept on telling me to go for RN, and made me feel hopeless because I had no transportation. So I just started thinking about LPN again recently. A while back a woman though at BOCES said April day classes were full. Then I call other day and she said you might be able to get in because of another location? Then today I called the Walden Ave location again to ask some questions, and they said April days is full and there is a waiting list I cant even be put on a list until take test and do interview. Who knows how long that would take! I wonder how they choose who they let in off waiting list if anyone. By grades, interview, or first come first serve? I rather start in April than have to wait. I mean I still have to work on getting car but I was going to try my hardest to make it work. I though they said someone will be there to talk to you about the program and financial aid? I hope it works out! Thanks. Oh yeah why did you decide not to go there? I also thought it wwas weird that from what it sounded like only night classes are at Potter rd location. She said something about day classes being at Niagara Lutheran in April and then Hamburg campus in October. Someone I kinda know took day classes at Potter before.

The entrance exam was pretty basic, just a lot of reading then answering questions, and basic math. adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. also fractions and decimals. im at the potter rd location, and there is a day class there along with the vening class which im in. theres also an evening class on two mile creek in tonawanda. im not sure about the hamburg location though. i found out my results in about a week, they called me. at the time of the test they didnt do an orientation, just a brief overview of the program. about two weeks before the program started we had a two hour orientation where they discussed policies, clinicals, uniforms, financial aid, and grading. i started in october. good luck, the program is totally worth it!
I wasn't ready for it at the time and was worried if I would actually make it there at 7am every morning coming from Niagara Falls. I'm sure that grades weigh heavy on acceptance. It seems that most times if someone gets a interview they've pretty much already decided to accept you. When I went to my interview they basically talked about the stress of the program. That it has to come first...you have to dedicate all of your time. They wanted to make sure that we had strong support systems, reliable transportation and could deal with how fast paced it would be. Was Trocaire really that bad? I planned to go to NCCC this spring to get my prereqs out the way and then transfer to trocaire for RN but now I'm not so sure.
When I talked to someone on the phone they said the day classes in April will be at Niagara Lutheran and October will be at Southtowns campus? I really thought they were at Potter also. Someone I kinda know went to day classes at Potter a few years ago. Potter would be alot easier for me! Also confused about if classes are full. A few months ago I heard day April classes were full and that October would probably be soon also. Then I called again about a week ago and she pretty much said it was full, and said something about another location or something or that I might be able to get in still. I called the next day to ask something about entrance exam and she said it was full and theres a waiting list..so idk! I dont know how the list works either. I hope I dont screw up on the exam. I mean I had a high GPA at Trocaire, but I havent been using my math. Also seems confusing if you have a question or something where to call (what location). Its not like a typical college where you just call there. Also where you find out about financial aid etc.
So I took the entrance exam Dec 14 and after trying to find out how I did, I finally was told today. The woman who called said your grades were great and whoever she mentioned was pleased with the grades. Now they want me to come in Jan 20th at 1pm yikes! I dont know what to expect really. Im just nervous because I would have to figure out alot! Im not sure what openings if any are left for April. Not even for sure where classes will be this time around. I was told something b4 but not sure if correct. Then my JOB and transporatation is a huge factor!!!! Also trying to look for grants/scholarships to pay for it. It would be very hard with work Im sure. My schedule isnt really flexible and Im working for Catholic Health and dont really want to quit (well not that I love my job but for other reasons). I so wish I didnt have to worry about work. Also depending when I start need to get vehicle and have been taking driving lessons for few weeks to get more comfortable driving. I would have to be able to afford car too. So kinda excited but very unsure?!
