Anyone starting the UMass GEP program this upcoming fall semester?

Thanks for your thoughts. It is encouraging that the faculty has an open mind and listens to the class' concerns. Is that an accurate statement?

Enjoy your break.

Yes, that is an accurate statement. Sorry that my earlier response was a little bit indirect.

hey everyone! i was just wondering what all u GEP acceptees had for educational/work backgrounds were when u applied? If you even dont mind responding with majors, GPAs, GRE scores, that would be really helpful! I am planning on applying for the Fall 2010 program, and I am just trying to gauge if I am in fact a competitive candidate or not. UMASS is my top choice and I am dying to go! Thanks for any help, and congratulations to u all!

Hi Lauren,

I have an Electrical Engineering degree and an MBA. I worked as an engineer and in several hi-tech marketing positions.

My GPA was over 3.0 and I broke 1000 on my GREs. I also volunteered in an emergency department for a few months before and during my application.

However, I wouldn't stress too much on what your major was or was not, or what your work experiences have been. The program is looking for people from a variety of backgrounds who can draw upon their unique life experiences to benefit them and their patients in their new career. Be honest with yourself and in your application, and you will do fine.

If you can, I strongly suggest that you go to an information session at the school. You can check the school's website for when the next one is.

Good luck!

We just recevied our book list for the fall semester of GEP 2009. There are a lot of books that are recommended but not required.

Of the people who have been through the first year, are there any recommended books that you found not to be useful, or did not need at all. Trying to whittle down how much I spend on books this semester.

Thanks.

I did not buy any of the recommended textbooks. I don't know which textbooks they are recommending this year but they are probably the same as last. Not really necessary if you ask me. The "required" patho and pharm textbooks I did not crack all year. Everything on the exams is covered in lecture and I used my old A&P textbook as a reference vs. the patho textbook which was not very helpful.
