Next year august and are you taking any classes at Rockhurst?

I am applying to Research for the traditional BSN program for next January (08). I would love to hear more about your experiences and thoughts on everything as you start in the program. What made you decide on Research?

I decided to go there because I was originally trying to get into Penn Valley, but the waiting list was too long. I applied there because it would have been two years anyway for my ADN, so I decided I might as well go there and get my BSN while I'm at it. By the time I graduate, I would have been JUST getting into the Penn Valley program. Also, I like the fact that they pay for your school as long as you agree to work for them. I havent had to come out of pocket for any tutition for my sophomore year due to their loan forgiveness program along with scholarships. Any extra loan money will be used for living expenses.

If you want, I will keep you updated. I have a friend who is in their accerlerated program and she is letting me use all her books, so no money on books for me! That's a blessing!

Also Research was fairly easy to get into, no entrance testing and there was no waiting lists. I applied in the Fall of 2005 and got my acceptance letter in January of 2006 for the 2007 school year. So far, the people have been very helpful. Leslie is great!

I tried to get out of McInerny's class, but all other Christianity I classes were full, or did not work for my schedule. There is one on Monday nights from 6pm-8:40pm and it is full, but I petitioned for it. I'm the 10th one on the list, so I think chances may be slim that I get that slot. I've also put in a petition for one this is 3 times a week but with a different instructor and a different time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

I talked to a friend of mine this morning who took him last semester for Morality in Healthcare and she said he wasn't her favorite but he wasn't the worst either. She said it's a pretty easy class you just have to be there; that's his big thing. She said if you miss one class it's a zero for the day. The AO students do three "meet and greet" types meetings before we begin the program and the first one happened to fall on a night she had his class and he would not excuse her for it. Luckily, it's not required to be there as much as it is recommended but it ended up being a pretty basic meeting with most of the questions having already been answered by Leslie. Hopefully, when we do the second one in March, it won't fall on the night I have classes because I sense it will be more informative.

I tried to change the Christianity I in the summer as well but it just doesn't work with my schedule. Oh well. I'll just grin and bear it I guess!

That's pretty much what my friend said. She also says he is big on paying undivided attention in his class and he is big on being there and being there on time. She also said to just lay low and stay under the radar and not get on his bad side. If I don't get my class changed, I'll just grin and bear it right along with you! ;) I'm gonna make sure I'll be 15 minutes early and sit on the front row. I hear his quizes are kinda hard though.

Does anyone know how many seats vs. applications there are at Research College of Nursing??

I am intending to apply there for the Fall 2008 or the Jan 2009 semester. Let's see what happens.

Am I crazy??....My husband and I are moving to KC this fall I am hoping to start the Accelerated program in Aug '09. I am due to have our first baby in April and my husband will be going to med school. Am I crazy to think that I could be a new mom and go through the program with my husband gone too? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks so much!

I am starting the AO program this August. I had a baby in April '07 and he'll be 16 months old when class begins. I am fortunate (I think...lol) to live 1 block away from my mother, who is a stay-at-home-mom to my 4 and 9 y/o siblings. She will be watching my son while I'm in class. I'm already expecting my stress level to go up when class begins. :( But just think...it will be all worth it. My husband and I plan to make Saturday's our 'family day'. I'll put the books away and we'll go do something together. It can work.

I was going to start in Aug '07, but there was no way I could have a newborn and do the program.

Thanks so much! There is hope! I know it will be worth it I just have to go for it. Can I ask you how often your mom is going to watch your baby? I'm sad I will have to leave her somewhere but I keep telling myself it's only 1 year and if I don't do it now then I don't know if I ever will. What does your husband do? Will he be able to watch your baby sometime while you are at school? Thanks so much for any advice and encouragement. I'm so excited but nervous too.

My mom will watch Evan when class is in session... so Mon-Thurs and any other times outside class hours (like Clinicals). My husband won't be able to watch him while I'm in class. He is an insurance adjuster and is in the office all week long. I'm going to miss being at home with my son, but I know he'll be in good hands. I've been staying at home with him since he was born. I am ready to have some adult interaction, that's for sure.

That is so nice to live so close to family. I'm going to miss mine when we move in Aug. I hate to leave my baby at day care or someone else's house but hopefully I will be able to find something for the year during school. At least I have a year before I start to do the 15 hours at Rockhurst and to find a babysitter. How did the 15 hours go for you? Did you do any online so you could still stay at home? You will have to keep me posted on how everything goes in the fall when you start. It will come soon. Good luck!

Hello,

I'm not in the accelerated program, but I am in the traditional program and is in my third semester.

I have plenty of friends in the AO program who have children. One of my good friends is a single mother of 2, and another one is a single mother of one.

The AO program is very intense, but it's doable. I, myself is a single mother of an 11 year old.

I don't know if you can do it with a newborn. The program, traditional or accelerated, is hard enough. But there is hope. There is a girl in my class who started the program with a 16 month old and was 9 months pregnant during the first semester. She had the baby and is doing well in her classes.

Anything is possible.

Good luck to you!

lyndeelou--- Where are you moving from? I'm doing the Rockhurst hours this semester and in the summer too. I'm not looking forward to them either (Philosophy & Theology=). Are you on Myspace or Facebook? If so, PM me your info and we can keep in touch through one of those sites. :) I use them more often.
