:)So happy to say that I will be attending nursing school starting July of 2014 at MHSON in Montclair. I was just wondering if anyone else here will starting with me. Would also love to hear from current or previous students! Thank youuu
Hi everyone,
i had had a few questions about this program. I already hold a bachelors but I want to pursue nursing, hence applying to mountainside. I haven't done the anatomy and microbiology pre reqs yet so I will complete that next year. Is it okay if have anatomy 2 and one other class still pending when I apply I. April 2015? Also,, I did see u guys talking about biochem in earlier threads, so now I am unclear as what is really needed I'm terms of sciences. Also, has anyone landed a job after the program? My plan is to for the RN to bsn or man program. Anyway, that's all for now. I have loads more questions. Hope to hear from I all soon !
Hi Letstepforward,
You can apply but you have to complete it by the time you start the program which is July every year.
You do need to take biochemistry (or chemistry for health sciences). I'm taking at PCCC this coming summer session which starts next week.
I also hold a BS degree in another field. The advisor at mountainside school of nursing told me I can start an MSN bridge program after I complete my first year there since I already hold a BS degree.
Hi YasmineRN,
Thanks for the reply! So, I currently completed general chemistry, so when you say chemistry for the health sciences, does that count? Biochemistry is another subject and I would have to complete orgo to do biochem, i am currently at WPUNJ as a 2nd degree, however I can always take it in another place if by all means Biochem is necessary.
When you say you can start your MSN right afterwards, are there any specific places you are looking into? That is also my plan, thats why I am asking. I looked into Monmouth University, (but it's down south :/) which does diploma rn-msn bridge. Do you think as a diploma RN, we would have the possibility of gaining employment?
One more question, what made you choose this program? I was looking into this program, because my first undergrad gpa limits me to associate level and diploma programs and can not apply to absn.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Chemistry they need is introduction to organic, general, and biochemistry. If you took general it might be too specific. You need the one that touches basis on all of it. I'm taking it right now for summer at PCCC it's called chem 103 and at Bergen community college it's called chem 113.
I chose this program because I wanted to start it right away and take classes on the side as well towards my bsn. My goal is to get my bsn or be very close to it by the time I get my rn diploma.
I didn't even apply to community colleges cuz they get too many applications and they put people on the waiting list. It's one-third the tuition at community college so everyone wants to apply there first.
Yeah I didn't have the best GPA with my first degree but with my nursing I have really high GPA. I can't do the absn program because that's just too fast paced for me. I have three small children so can't take 19 units a semester. Heck no!!!! Lol
I'm not concerned much about finding a job. It depends on each person. I know people with BSN that can't find a job and another with an associate degree who got a job making over 100k 6 months after graduation. I plan on doing volunteer work at the hospital during my second year too. There are a lot of opportunities with nursing. My goal is to just get the RN license for now.
YasminRN, hank you for clearing that! I wish I could take classes this summer but I am up for surgery for a tendon repair Friday and will be bedridden for a few weeks. I was wondering if I would be allowed to take online classes at UNE, so I wil call and ask admissions. Anyway are you planning to do bsn afterwards before getting the msn? Also, you mentioned you would take classes on the side to get closer to the bsn, but how is that possible?

Thanx for the reply and all the info. It's nice to hear from a current student. I have to say I'm surprised they allow 3-4 tries..During my interview, it was emphasized that failing 1 class will put you behind for a whole year, b/c the classes are in sequences, is that true?
Also, is it difficult to get a good GPA with the way grading system is (below a 80 is failing)?
