Anyone Know of a MedicAlert-Like System without Fees?

I'm hoping with all of the experience in this forum that someone could help me. My mother is 72 years old, living independently in her home. My sister and I each live less than .25 miles away and between the two of us, one of us is nearly always at home. We are looking for something similar to a MedAlert system, but a system that would notify me or my sister rather than a call center. We would like something like a two-way radio that she could wear around her neck or wrist - some way for her to either activate a telephone or two-way radio in my or my sister's home.

I'm looking for something small that she wouldn't have to carry in her hand. And she would rather be able to contact a relative than a call center. Does anyone have any advice as to where to turn to find equipment like this? All I can find are services that route an emergency call to a call center. Plus, I'd prefer not to pay a monthly fee if possible.

I so happy I came across your post! I just spent a few months researching just such a system for my Mom, and I finally bought a great one two months ago. I hesitate to post a link, because I know it's frowned upon, but this can really help alot of people so I'll do it. This is exactly what you're looking for.
