Anyone know anything about the "Step" system at Brigham and Women's?

Published

Hi All!

I'm new to Allnurses.com and new to Massachusetts!

I'm an RN with 2 full years experience in an IMC at a big academic hospital and am I'm considering a job offer at Brigham and Women's. I'm a BSN, working on my NP in Boston.

My question is: What is with this "Step" program?

HR told me I would be hired at a Step 3 based on my experience, but then I found out yesterday that Step 2 is the step at which they hire newly licensed RNs. (!) Aren't you supposed to go up one step for each year you work as an RN? Why is 2 years of experience only one step ahead of a new grad?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I thought step one is what newly hired nurses start out as, It wouldn't make sense to have them start at step 2. Anyways call the MNA since they are the ones who negoiated the contract.
