Anyone know anything about Active duty Air Force Nursing in Hawaii (Oahu)

Anyone know anything about Active Duty Air Force Nursing on Oahu? I know the Air Force just went joint with the Navy. I wanted to know what kind of specialties are available for Air Force? Tripler is Army do they staff with Air Force at all??

Thanks,

Pam

This may sound like a stupid question but if a hospital is not joint does that mean it only has it's own people? In other words if Tripler is Army does that mean only Army work there?

Specializes in L&D, mother/baby, antepartum.

I don't know about HI specifically, but AF RNs do work at ARMY hospitals. I work OB and I've known several RNs and MDs who worked at Landstuhl.

Specializes in ICU, ER, OR, FNP.

It depends on your specialty. Oh, and the USAF didn't become the Navy....sorry.

Thanks for the replies. I know the Air Force did not become the Navy but Hickam is a joint base now called Pearl Harbor.

I was hoping to hear Tripler employed Air Force as well as Army. Little Greek, have you ever seen Hawaii come across the sheet for available for OB?

Thanks

Specializes in Anesthesia.

I have known one AF nurse that was stationed at Tripler, but he was/is a CRNA. Depending on your speciality there are often periodic chances to work with other services. Also, more and more bases are moving to joint facilities.

Nope I sure haven't, but if it's available I'm putting it on my next ADP! :) I can check the AMS when I get back to work and see if the AF shows anything there.

AMS is months to years out of date sometimes..... Check with your assignment officer to see what is currently open and what is projected to open up.

wtbcrna is right, AMS is waaayyy out of date, but I looked just for kicks. I was able to pull up positions open at Landshtul but got no returns when I looked up Tripler. Not sure what the Navy hospital there is called, but if you let me know I can look it up. It would at least give you an idea of AF RNs are even getting stationed there.
