Anyone just admitted to the Vermont Tech program?

Published

Hi...I'm new to this forum and have just been accepted into the Vermont Tech LPN program....and would like to network with other northern vermont students if you are out there. I'll be in the Newport classes. Like to hear from you! Also, if anyone has been through this program I'd love to hear how the time goes...how many days/hours/etc...

Ah, OK. Just making sure I wasn't missing anything. I'm working on the letters.... trying to wrangle up two folks to write them.

I looked and it's not the TEAS, but some "accuplacer" thing. Which is good because the TEAS has a good bit of science that I'm lacking.

So far, so good and no snow! Lucky you to hang up in the hill today :) I'm going to start my mad dash and back here in a minute.

Sorry, I've been out of pocket for a while...I think the exam you're talking about is an accuplacer...sort of a jack-of-all-trades kind of writing and math thing. I didn't have to take it because I have the bachelors already... but I have heard that it's not too bad. Good luck! I'm glad to hear that southern vermont still has openings...up here in northern vermont there are waiting lists even for very qualified applicants....

Hey there...just FYI...for you out of state applicants...I hear that VSAC also has some scholarships out there for people who are willing to work in Vermont for at least a year after you graduate. I applied for a bunch but wasn't looking for out of state...I think it's the VTNURSING one. Check it out!

Hi Brandy, Mark and all...I'm sorry I started this thread and then dropped the ball...I'm so glad you are all starting too...although I wish some of you were in northern vermont...just to mention though...we are in a "no light" town of 650 ... sort of the same! What's a Stewarts?

Brandy...if you are going to take A&P over the summer...I recommend the online version at CCV. I am taking #2 with Dr. Lehr and love it! Online is amazing because it's really thorough and once you get the hang of the pace...it's doable. Good luck! (plus it's less expensive at CCV)

Dalgal,

Geesh I thought you were one of those one time posters.:D

RE: VSAC, I briefly went to their website, is there a VTnursing thingy there..or was it elsewhere??

I had talked to VTC this past Wed. and they said they still have a "few" openings in Bennington, but she was not specific, I will make the appointment for their placement test today, for next week. I probably could handle the Accuplacer better than TEAS at this point. The real problem for me right now is Algebra or the fact that it's been waaaaayy to long since having taken it, although at work I am always using negative and positive numbers and meausuring to the 1/1000 of an inch.

NEK, how much snow do you have up there? When I was looking for a house we did check out a few places up there, but it was a little too remote. this is coming from a guy who lived on a small Island in the Bahamas for 15 years, no phone, no tv, no newspapers, no arts, just a lot of girls in bikini's who just could not wait to....oh nevermind.

Anyway Stewarts is a C-Store based out Saratoga Springs they have about 400 stores in NY, Western Mass and Southern VT. They have the best Ice Cream with neat flavors and their milk is constantly rated in the top 5 in NY State for the last 6 years that I have been here.

I am kind of concerned aout Brandytab, as she was going to NJ during that last snow storm we had, I have not heard from her since, I hope she is ok.

I am thinking that after the placement exam, I am hoping to maybe at least getting a conditional acceptance, where I would have to take whatever courses VTC recommends this summer at CCV to get in full time this fall.

A "no light" town?? not even a blinking one??

As they say..we shall see.

An island in the Bahamas sound good about now...we had our snow removed with a bucket loader a couple of days ago...too much at the same time! BrandyTab was driving to N.J.? Maybe she's just taking it easy...but the roads are great now...a few days ago they weren't though...hope she's good.

Stewarts sounds like our Ben & Jerry's maybe...yep, no light not even blinking...but we are really close to Jay Peak and other great stuff. I didn't remember...are you already in Vermont? I know you both are looking at the southern schools but I wasn't sure if you've already relocated. On the VSAC website, there is a booklet and form to download with all of the various scholarships on it. Some have a due date of March 1 for the postmark so you may want to check it out now. Don't worry too much about the Accuplacer...if you are using basic math everyday then you should be fine. I best be getting some sleep...see ya!

Sharon

...Brandy and I live just across the border from VT, she lives parallel to Bennington and I live about 35 minutes north from Bennington, but I work in Arlington.

From the time of your post looks like your a night owl too. I work 2nd shift hence my early AM posts.

I will check out a little more thoroughly the VSAC.

Thanks a bunch,

Mark

I have kids so the early morning is my alone time. If I find the exact website, I'll let you know. Good luck! If you and Brandy have to take Human Growth & Dev...I'm taking it online through CCV so maybe I'll see you there! For the Newport site, all of the prereqs and coreqs need to be completed because it's a mini site.--nursing classes only. Sharon

Sharon,

I think Bennington is a mini-site also.

Regarding your online classes, do you have to be online at a certain time, like when the class actually starts or can you go "into class" at 1AM or whenever??

I also wonder if I (probably) need to take say, A&P at CCV, if classes at VTC are scheduled not to "interfere" with CCV's class times?? Since they are both under the Vt college system.

As they say in Bahston,

Mahk :smokin:

PS Brandy was going to do a same day round trip....

Hey Mahk...I'm not sure about how the classes mesh as far as schedules go but I would assume that we are going to have a 4 day week, leaving a day for other classes. I highly highly recommend the online version of everything...I'm in A&P2, Nutrition, and Mathematical Concepts right now all online through CCV--it's great if you are good at working independently...no lectures, and good at time management. There is no specific time to log in and no minimum amount of time for most things but most require an attendance of sorts by having you post on the discussion boards from time to time each week. There are due dates for labs, quizzes, exams, etc...but you can do it on whatever day is most convenient for you. If you can knock out A&P this summer, I would absolutely do it because it will free up some time for you to concentrate on the nursing stuff. Did you find the VSAC info?

Sharon

Sharon,

I agree with you in regards to taking A&P before starting, that's what I meant earlier in regards to getting a "conditional acceptance" in that they may require I take A&P or Algebra to get back up to speed. Know what I mean??

CCV's summer classes will be posted March 9th or thereabouts. We shall see.

I have made the appointment to take the placement exam, that would be the last of my application requirements.

If you lived in New York City you would say,

Mauk
