Anyone got info about jobs near Columbus????

Published

hey everyone,

anyone work near columbus???? how do you like it. i have 8 months left in my rn program out in new mexico and have been looking into places to work after i pass my boards. internet searches keep bringing up the same hospitals and clinics so any suggestions of where to look would be great. any hospitals in the area have new grad nursing programs or hire new grads at all? how does the housing market look? the weather; i'm not the biggest fan of long cold snow periods. you can only find so much off the internet before you need to talk to someone who knows the area........i don't have my heart set on a certain area to practice in but have been finding myself gravitate towards oncology. any thoughts good or bad on columbus and surrounding areas would be appreciated.

nmmc in tupelo has a good oncology unit along with baptist hospital in columbus. iv heard some pretty bad things concerning baptist, not so much about the oncology unit but the hospital in general. but i dont know personally just hear say from nurses that work there or have in the past.

I live near columbus.. I dislike baptist and I refuse to work there because it is somewhere that i don't want to be taken as a patient. NMMC is an AWESOME system, my sister in law works for them. Their main hospital is in Tupelo but they also have a small hospital and a good many clinics around Westpoint and i think there are 2-3 Clinics in columbus. There is also OCH hospital in starkville.. I don't know much about it though, but when i was looking for a job recently i think they had some RN jobs.

thanks for all the info.the hospital i work at now has some volunteers from mississippi and they mentioned baptist is the big hospital. i checked out nmmc and like what i see. baptist had some starting wages on their job descriptions. they were advertising about 19 and out here in nm we start off round 23. i hope baptist is just a poor paying hospital. i'm glad ms is in the nursing compact cause i'm ready for some green scenery.

well please see if you can bring some nursing unions with you if you come to mississippi...

My mom worked for OCH for 9+ years. I'm not going to get into all that, but I'll just say find somewhere else if you can. It's a great hospital, but management and some of the staff really make it an overly-stressful working environment that you really don't want to have to deal with.

You guys know anything about the Mennonite population down there? The people that first turned me on to the Columbus area were some Mennonite volunteers at my work. I don't ever want to be to intrusive since it's there culture but from what I have read so far they are alot like the Amish.

there is a moderate minmonite population here, primarily around the macon, columbus area. i think they are little more liberal than amish folks are. my grandad ran a farm feed store just over the alabama line and had a few minnonite guys who worked with him, those three guys were some of the best fellas i've ever met. i think they were really the only minnonite people i ever really got to know, but they were really good people. worked och prn for a few yrs. some pretty good staff. but the hospital management is basically ran by administration and sort of old fashion in the way they run the hospital. but i hear its better than baptist in columbus.
