A lot of my peers are flocking to ICU setting and hate med-surg. So far, I LOVE the med surg floors I've been on because I feel I see and learn so much. I get to talk to my patients, I get a good workload so I don't have to see the same patient all the time, and "put out fires"? Not bad stuff. It's just a good pace to me.
But a lot of the students hate it and I've found that some of the doctors I've met really seem to favor/respect and like the nurses who work in ICU. I was wondering if there's a reason and what that reason is and is there anyone here who, like me, isn't all the into ICU?

Traditionally ICU nurses were known for their intuition, connection to the patient, and independence.
It doesn't mean you can't be a great med surg nurse! You will learn the most general info in med surg.
