We are thinking of trying to fax report to the floors. I was wondering if anyone else out there does it and how it's working.
Our sister hospital is starting to do that and it has been quite a struggle for them. Causing a lot of bad feelings all around. We are trying to avoid that.
We want to set up a task force of ED nurses and floor nurses to work on it together.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I first used it at a travel assignment I was at for all floors, it worked well, the form was well written...............NOW at my new hospital we newly use it on a few floors where patients are frequently admitted, and from the word i got tonight from a floor nurse, is that "all of them are complaining" and do not want a faxed report and would rather have oral report, and that "i'm suppose to voice my opinion too"
I am an oldie i guess and oral report offers an exchange between two nurses which is a good thing.

We've been using faxed report for some time. I like it and don't have to spend time that I don't have, holding on the phone for someone to be available to take verbal report. As soon as I believe my patient is a potential admission, I take a faxed report sheet to the bedside and begin filling in the blanks as I'm charting. Then when a bed becomes available, I just do a recent set of vitals and fax. Call to the floor to assure report received and the patient leaves the depoartment within 15 minutes. The only floors we do not fax to are ICU and CCU. :)
