Anyone Failed 1st year 1st semester in nursing school(RN)

Published

I failed my first semester it feels terrible inside, I have one more chance this coming semester. I thought I new what I was getting into but it proved me wrong. I am a delicated student but I have a hard time answering multiple choice questions. How do I over come that major problem? I always and most of the time seem to know the write answer but somehow I doubt myself and then select the wrong one. What's wrong with me? :banghead: Help!!!!!

The best advice I ever got on how to study for Nursing exams was study using NCLEX question. Once you finish studying the material for the exam, go and do as many NCLEX type questions on the material. It really helps you figure out what you are having problems with and it let's you know what type of questions to expect on your exam.

It's kind of funny. Throughout my entire nursing school career, I keep hearing over and over again not to study the night before/and or the morning of an exam. They say you either know it or you don't. But for me, I always have done last minute reviews before tests, and it never fails that something will show up on the test that I wouldn't have known if I had not read it that morning. Obviously you can't pick up the book and read the entire 8 chapters for the first time before an exam and expect to learn anything, but I don't think reviewing key terms or concentrating on areas that are confusing to you is a bad thing. It works for me. So far I haven't had anything less than a B.

The best studying tool I can recommend is NCLEX books and practice questions. I do every single practice question I can get my hands on before a test. That seems to help me a lot.

yes it's happened to alot of students. I think it happens most freshmen year becuz that's when students are getting acclimated with the college life and the freedom that comes with it. I mean no one has to study if they dont want to... most of the time there are no assignments due in every class. No one forces u to read. Basically the student has to take responsibility to read and study when they should (early in the semester). Like someone already said, failure is an eye opener. At least with you it's not too late and u have a second chance... and u know wht to do now and will improve. for some students it's too late cuz they dont realize until later on in the four years and then they have alot of repition to do...

So, just take it as a fresh start and do things differently (i'm sure you know what you can do differently now). you'll be fine if u keep trying.
