Anyone have experience working at Monmouth County Hospitals?

Published

Hi all,

I posted the other day but didn't hear back. I currently a student in my 4th semester set to graduate in May.

I tech at a hospital about 45 minutes north from here and am hoping to get into an internship with them after graduating. But wanted to find out if anyone has experience with hospitals closer to me (monmouth county) and what its like to work at these places.

I have interviewed at some (st. barnabas/monmouth medical eatontown) but it's really hard to tell what the true atmosphere is like without having been there. I'm more concerned with getting "good training" right out of school my first year then $$$$. Which is why I'm thinking I'll probably drive further because the place I tech at seems like they have a good program in place HOWEVER if I could find a monmouth county hospital with a good new grad training program that would be even better.

I'd appreciate any input. thank in advance!

Avoid Bayshore Community Hospital like the plague......

I worked at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank NJ for about 3 years before moving to SC. It was a great place to work, you will see acute patients, but it still has a community-hospital feel. It mainly trains nurses so you won't see many residents, interns getting in your way. I had a good orientation as a nurse extern. The benefits are great I hear, (I was per diem, and didn't need any) and the hospital system (Meridian Health) was the first Magnet hospital system in the Nation.

I worked as an extern on their Complex Care/telemetry/ICU stepdown floor, which is a great place for a new grad to get a lot of skills, like vents, peritoneal dialysis, cardiac drips, etc. I also worked in the ICU, which was a great experience.

Check out their website at Meridianhealth.com

Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Ocean Medical Center are also in the system, and JSUMC is a Level I trauma and Level III perinatal center.

I plan on moving back in a year or two, and plan on going back to Meridian. I LOVED it!!!

The pay ranges from $23hr-$28hr days/nights plus educational and health benefits, plus double time on holidays. Good Luck!

I have a friend who works at Centre State Medical Center in Freehold and she loves it.

I'm a little less thrilled about it because when I was living in Howell, I had fallen. I went to their ER and their orthopedist said I sprained it. I took it at their word and did what they said. Well the pain plagued me for many weeks after that so I went to my own orthopedist who took x-rays and showed me that the ankle had actually been BROKEN. They had to re-break it and re-set it so that it would heal properly. To this day it just hasn't been the same. So I have a personal aversion, lol.
