I've only been able to find a handful of posts about the Ultrascope. Littman is obviously more popular than Ultrascope, but is it because it is better or just more well known? I really want an Ultrascope for aesthetic value. Does anyone have experience with both?

My first stethoscope was an Ultrascope, a present from my parents for getting into nursing school. I couldn't hear anything with it, but that might have been due to my inexperience, and the fact that the diaphragm was stripped, so eventually it wouldn't screw onto the acrylic head anymore. I sent it back, they replaced the head and diaphragm, and now I can hear a lot better with it. While it was being fixed, though, I needed a stethoscope, so I bought a Littman classic II SE. I could hear a lot better with it right off the bat, and could actually do BPs, which is difficult with the rounded head on the Ultrascope, because the fabric of the cuff rubs against it and creates a friction noise. Overall, I prefer my Littman, but I'm bringing my Ultrascope on my peds rotation this semester..I think the kids will like it :chuckle
hope this helps!
Thanks for the information. I hadn't thought about how it would work with the BP cuff. I don't usually put my steth under the cuff though, so that might not be an issue.
