I've been at my job for about 18 months and was originally hired for PT. However, after the interview I was told the position is for FT. No biggie. I love my job and working FT has not been an issue. By the way, I work 3 12's a week and I'm a rotator.

Fast foward to now, I'm expecting and debating whether or not to return from maternity leave as a FT or PT employee.

I've made a list of pros' and cons but still haven't made a final decision.

Pros are:

-Not having to use daycare

-Spending more time with baby

Cons are:

- Less money to spluge due to reduction income

- boredom on my days off

- Fear of the "What ifs" What if my husband unexpectedly looses his job.

We just purchased a new home and have a baby on the way so going part time will require some sacrifices. I'm just not sure what to do.

Any advice ?

PT and you can pick up shifts PRN

I don't have kids but I would just advise that you take a hard look at your monthly bills and be very honest about how you will be able to manage on a PT salary. Consider what you can cut back on (cell phones, cable, eating out, child care, etc). Remember, be realistic about what you and your husband are willing to adjust in your spending habits.

Also, most financial experts recommend having enough money set aside to pay for about 6 months of bills.

Having money in savings and a clear budget may ease some of the anxiety you're feeling about going PT.

Congrats on the baby!
