Nurses Career Support

Hey my friend was fired today because they said a resident complained about not going being able to use the restroom for an hour... To make her very long story short...heres the jist.

at 2400 her na came up to her and asked her if they could try using a bedpan with a non wieght bearing patient. This resident is listed as a two person assist, and with staffing concerns....nas not willing to help other nas, This NA was having to lift the resident up and place her in the wheel chair and then take her to bathroom where she had to lift her up again to the toilet. Then lift her again to the wheel chair and again to the bed.

So my friend said that would be no problem they could try. When the aid came back from lunch she told my friend that no one had answered this residents call light while she was at lunch, which is always a problem on this shift. So the aid went into the residents room at about 0155 She came and got my friend which I should let you know was a GPN at the time, and the aid went into the room, at first the resident was upset with the idea until the nurse came into the room, and then the nurse expressed her concerns to the resident, she was worried for her safety. Then the resident got on the bed pan, about 20 seconds later she said she dint have to go anymore that when you put her on it, it just goes away. So the aid pulled the bed pan out from underneath the resident. After that the resident started to cry, stating her shoulder hurt. So the nurse went and got her pain medicine, this resident seems to have several skeletal problems. So the nurse gave her pain meds, then sat next to her. Then the resident looked at the nurse and told her to place her on the bed pan so she did. Then the nurse sat beside her bed. the resident stated she could not go with the nurse looking at her, so the nurse placed the call light in her hand and reasured her she would be right outside. Then the aid came up the hall way, after answering some other lights, about a three minutes after giving her her call light the resident hit her light the aid walked in there and asked her if she was done, the resident stated she had not gone, so the nurse came back in, then the resident started complaing to get her up get her up so the nurse and the aid lifted her and took her to the bathroom and then placed her back to bed. This was over the corse of twenty five minutes.

Now my friend is fired!!!!!!! They said this is abuse even though she was trying to protect the well fare of the patient so the patient would not fall. She needs some advice and support.
