Anyone else having trouble in fundamentals?

Nursing Students Student Assist

[color=deepskyblue]i have 2 classes this semester...6 hours...and i am at the lowest c possible right now for fundamentals:uhoh21: (i thought this class would be the easy one) and i am at an a for adult health assessment (i though this class would be the hard one)...boy was i backwards:nono:

as if this isn't stressful enough...my teacher tells the class that if we can't make an easy c in her class, we might as well drop out of nursing right now because there is no way that we will pass next semester:crying2::smackingf

anyway, i was just wondering if anyone else was in the same boat. i only have 1 test left and the final so i can still pass the class if i do well on those 2 tests. the questions on the test are so confusing to me though...i don't know what is wrong with me:trout:

does anybody have any advice for studying for the fundamentals class???

Hello,

I was having trouble at first in fundamentals, here is the post if it makes you feel any better:).

What helped me? I bought inclex books/cd's and did the questions relating to what topic we were studying at the time.

I don't know if you did, but I did not take any medical terminology classes before entering 101 and wish I did because there was SO much new terminology that I didn't know...I felt like I was looking up a new word after reading every other sentence in my fundamentals book... so that can be time consuming.

One thing I think I focused too much on was the pathophysiology, much more than was needed. Yes pathophysiology is very important but I used to spend hours on it when I should have been focusing ALOT more on nursing interventions etc.

You can do it, you made it this far...

EXCELLENT book for fundamentals

Fundamentals Success

A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking

Look on amazon and ebay...I even found questions that were VERY similar to the test questions. HIGHLY recommended. If you can't afford it, SCROUNGE for the money, lol, I'm so serious it is so worth it!:)

What book is your nursing school using?

I have A's so for but what I do is write out all key terms/definitions and learn those first. Then I read the chapters in sections, stop and take notes, learn the info, and move on to the next few sections.

I also use the Study guide and again after I have done a few sections of reading/learnig, I go to the study guide and answer those questions.

We use P&P and the entire chapter is what we are responsible for knowing for our test.

When I have extra time I use the Fundamentals for Success book that was mentioned earlier.

I believe because it's so much information you must plan on studying and spending about 2 - 4 hrs with it everyday.

Even though we had a test today and it's the week-end I have already started reading for the next 3 lectures.

Good Luck to you~

I didn't think fundamentals was bad. Try to study with a group of people, quiz each other on anything that may be a potential test question. Try to do the questions at the end of the chapter and make flashcards of them. Our professor told us you really need not simply be able to define the term, but to apply it to a concept. NCLEX most likely will not say: What is the definition of (insert term here), instead they will ask it in a concept/clinically applied question. If you use the Potter and Perry book use the CD that comes with it.

Another suggestion is not to over-study either. In fact, I would refuse to open the book on the day of the test. I studied every nite for a week and a half before the test and I ended up with a 90 in the class.

Good Luck and think positive.:specs:
