Anyone else just apply to SJSU nursing program for fall '09

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello all,

I just applied to SJSU's program. I don't think I'll get in. My 30 last units g.p.a is 3.39, my pre req g.p.a is 3.23, and I scored 90.6 on the Teas, which means my impaction score is 10.24.

Though one part of me says that I may have a chance because students who already have bachelor degrees aren't alllowed to apply anymore (this is the first semester the rule is in effect), and there were several of them in the previous classes....I think someone told me there are about 15 every semester?

Your thoughts?

I got accepted to sjsu nursing program for fall 2009. How is the program here? How are the teachers? I'm so excited!!! School starts soon. I also got accepted into Usf and is having a hard time choosing which school. I want to go to Usf but it cause $50k a year. Help. I don't wanna be in debt especially if I can avoid it.

Hi Honey,

So let me begin by saying that your information is a little incorrect...

P-Backs' are not allowed any longer at SJSU for pretty much any course of study.

A P-Back is a direct entry post bachelorette degree. It is typically a "right" which comes with being an alumni.

But because the economy is so bad, and everyone has chosen to go to college- including those who would have never thought twice about going before.... the load for professors has tripled.

So inorder for individuals already posessing a bachelors from SJSU to be accepted into the program, they must actually re-"apply" to the University, and then again to the school of nursing.

So sorry to burst the bubble, you are still competing with people who already have a degree. The difference is they are probably going to be that much more driven towards getting into the program then they otherwise would have been.

How do I know... I'm Alumni, class of 2008.

Now some advice:

I think from reading your post you are a Frosh, straight out of High School.... Am I correct? If so, take your pre reqs, and explore other fields if you dont get in your first time. No biggy. Youl feel like a cement truck ran over your heart, and all your dreams are crushed and what not... but the reality is a friend of mine took 2 or 3 trys before getting into the program, but graduated the same time as me anyhow (my degree is BA soci. which took 4.5 yrs). You can always load up each semester to make sure you get out "on time" average exit from SJSU is 6.5 yrs, and average age is 26 last I checked. Life happens, people you love hurt you, get sick, die, marry you, emotional breakdowns happen, you get sick etc. The "on time" ideal we all have comming into college desipates over time, as the 4year course of study is more of a myth then ever... So erase that from your mind and focus on how you will spend whatever time you have in college wisely.

So welcome home.

State can be a great school. But part of enjoying it and all it has to offer is by taking some things 100 %seriously, andothers.... with ease. If you dont get in and are sure this is what you want to do... use this time to network.

In this economy, the only thing getting people jobs anymore is WHO they KNOW not WHAT!!!

Remember that, love.
