Anyone applied to or in the BHCC Nursing program?

Published

Hi Everyone

I am interested in going to BHCC for Nursing, I already have my undergrad in Healthcare management but realized this is not the field for me. I would like a more direct patient care based job and have always wanted to pursue nursing but heard horror stories and chickened out. At almost 30 years old and working with inpatient nurses and seeing what some parts of the nursing job entails, I am READY to give it my all and change my career. Please, if you can, provide me with your honest opinion on the BHCC Nursing Program, what is the application process like? If you have graduated from it how was your overall experience.

I would like o add that I received an associate degree in health information management from bunkerhill, I am familiar with the school. However, I am not familiar with their nursing program which I heard is very different than their regular degree programs.

Thank you!

Hello Blaise!

I am also applying for the nursing program at BHCC, hoping to start from the next Spring semester. I heard some mixed reviews about the program, but more or less positive, so just crossing my fingers it is like what I heard.

I have taken all the prerequisites to enter the program, maintaining a high GPA (3.9), and took the TEAS exam with avg score 78%, Hoping this satisfies the requirements.

I also wonder what is the program actually looks like, and when are the important dates. For example, I heard there are two mandatory so-called "boot camp" sessions which held before the semester. I wonder what it is all about and when exactly it going to be held, as I cannot find any resource online. It would be great if someone who has attended can enlighten me.

Best of luck Blaise, and hoping anyone can provide a reply.

Many Thanks!

I called the admissions this morning and I was told that the decisions has been made and the letters will be sent out by this end of the week. Good luck!

Thank you both for your responses. I did not apply for next term because I already have a bachelors and BHCC requires chemistry, after doing my research they are the only school to require that class and I am not sure if its worth it for me. I will most likely pursue an accelerated BSN Program. Good luck to you both on your nursing degrees!

Did all my pre reqs there, got accepted but opted for a school closer to my home. All classmates that were in my pre reqs also got accepted into their program and liked it. Best of luck to all!

Thats really good to hear! Congratulations!! Do you know roghly how much the program costs? What did you score on the teas?

This was back in 2014 but if I remember correctly was about 12k for the program. It was also the teas V back then. I scored in the high 80's on everything (sorry I don't remember the exact scores)

What I can say is that you have a better shot at having ALL non nursing classes complete with good grades. (In addition to good teas) they look at that as you will have less to study (just the nursing courses) and a better chance at doing very well.

Thank you for clarifying because I already have 2 degrees I got my associates from bunker hill and a bachelors from another school. I am taking the prereqs and other courses I will only have to take the nursing courses. How has your experience been as a nurse? Do you have your ADN still or your BSN? How was the job search process for you after graduation? sorry for all the questions it's really hard to get replies on here sometimes.

I don't work as a traditional RN in a hospital setting (yet) In addition to being an RN, I am also a dental assistant so I work at a dental school in the OR for IV sedation cases. It was difficult for me to secure a job with ASN, (I am also in Boston) so I immediately enrolled in a RN-BS program. I was set to graduate next week but ended up withdrawing from this semester. I will pick up again next month and graduate in May 2020.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have or PM me.

Best
