Anyone over the age of 30 taking the ACT?

Published

I will be taking the ACT in September for one of the nursing programs that I am applying to. They do not use the NET at this program. They only look at your ACT, grade in A&P I, and use your GPA as a tie breaker. I took the ACT in high school twice and made a 19 both times. The minimum is a 19 for this program. I am hopefull that I will make a higher score to better my chances of being accepted. I just bought a study book tonight and plan on studying all summer for this and the NET. Anyway, I was just curious as to how many of use over thirty are having to take this thing again or for the first time!

Strange. None of the schools I've dealt with have required me to take the ACT or retake the SAT (which I took about 30 years ago). I really hate to think what kind of score I would muster!

My school doesn't require you to take the ACT, instead they use a COMPASS test which I 'believe' is some way related to the ACT. It has math, reading, and writing components on it. At my CC you must make atleast a 76 on the reading portion to even be considered for the nursing program. The COMPASS isn't too bad though. I would be nervous about the ACT though

Good luck to you!

I took the ACT for the first time at the age of 43 because the nursing school I was applying to required it. I hadn't taken a math class in over 25 years. I took about 3 months to prepare and I got a great score as a result.

It can be done.

I am 33 and took the ACT in February. I was really concerned because it's been so long since high school, but I did well. My girlfriend did well too and she is 39.

I used the ACT study guide and timed myself taking the practice tests. Time is your biggest enemy during the test, there just isn't enough. I was able to finish every section, but I had to push to get through the math and science.

My school works on a point system. 100 total possible points-25 possible for GPA, 25 possible for completed pre/co-requisites and 50 possible for the ACT based on your score.

So what did your score end of being? I am hoping for a 23 or 24. I think that that would put me in to the program.

I got a 29. I think to get the full 50 points for the ACT at my school you need a 24 so hopefully that score will be good for you. I was shooting for a 24 and was pleasantly surprised with my score. I got a 35 for both english and reading which offset my average-at-best math and science scores.

Good luck!
