I am starting the RN program at Keiser Jax in August. Has anybody attended this program and have any advice or opinions of the school?

Hi~
How is the program going? I'm planning on Starting in the January 2012 class and would really like to hear from a current or former student. Do you have any feel for how "easy" it will be to get a job when you graduate - as compared to graduates of FSCJ or UNF's nursing programs?
Thanks!

I will be moving to Jax in Dec. I am considering Keiser. Jaxmom4 what can you tell me about your choice to attend Keiser? How many classes will you take at 1 time? how long is a term? How long is the program and are you going in the day or evening? times? Thanks in advance
I chose Keiser for a few reasons. The programs at the local public universities won't work for me because I have quite a few prerequisites for their programs. The prereqs I need to take have to be taken in order - in other words, I would have to take algebra before I could take Chemistry which I would have to take before microbiology. So I would have at least 3 or 4 semesters of prereqs to take and even then - no gurantee that I would get accepted into their program. The cost is much less than at the private universities like Keiser, Concorde and others - so the competition is much greater. I considered Concorde but their program is VERY accelerated. I believe it is only 15 months and it's 8am to 5pm M-F. With four children at home - I don't believe I would have the time I need to study after being in school full time. Virginia College has a 27 month program with the prereqs built into that program. It is about $18k more than Keiser's but they include things like uniforms, etc..in the cost of their program - still a lot more expensive. Their hours are 8a - 5p M-F even when you are doing your clinical hours. I was very impressed with the program director at Keiser. She told me that all of the nursing instructers have their master's degrees. Mainly, though, I chose Keiser because of their accreditation and the fact that their ADN (RN program) will be accepted at other Universities if I later choose to pursue my BSN (Keiser, UNF and FSCJ are the only programs in Jax at this time who's degree's are transferable). That is a MAJOR plus for me
I am slated to begin my prereqs at Keiser in May. Their class schedule is much different as they don't follow the traditional "semester" route. Instead, you take only 1 class at a time - and you complete that class in 1 month - then you move on to the next class. I will begin the actual Nursing Program in January 2012.
That's about all I can tell you at this point. I would LOVE it if someone already in the program could share their opinions and experiences as it is a LOT of debt I'm going to incur.
Hope that helps and Good luck to you!

Hello above. I attend Keiser U and am currently in the nursing program. I graduate in December 2011. I chose Keiser because I didn't want to wait and I heard others say that most people don't get in FSCJ and UNf on the first try. when you are in the program you will take two classes per semester. there are 16wks per semester. Honestly there is a lack of organization. If you find someone to study with you will be just fine....Good luck on your journey and I wish everyone the best:)
Hi Kassie83.
Thank you for your reply - and congratulations on your upcoming graduation!
I am currently taking A&P 2 and have to take Microbiology next. Did you have Healy/Ealy (Sp?) for microbiology? If so, how is he and how are his exams?
As far as the nursing program goes, how much time would you say that you spend studying/etc...after class on weekdays and also on weekends?
Thanks for any addtional information you can supply. I guess I'm just trying to get a handle on the workload and whatever else to expect.
Good luck on your final few months in the program and on your NCLEX!
Kassie83 -
What do you know as far as the NCLEX pass rates at Keiser?

Hi Danny2 my husband will start nursing school at keiser august 31st 2015. We are going today to talk to financial aid etc and get all his student loans etc set up. Keiser seems to be the best school if you have a family and work full time. He didn't get into FSCJ he missed cut off by a few people. Keiser is very expensive and I am very concerned about paying all this money back. We don't qualify for a lot of student loans since both of us work and make good money so we will have to take out private loans on top of student loans. Its going to be tough but it will be worth it. :)
We talked to financial aid and to our surprise there are several businesses that will give you a 40% discount of your tuition. Go speak to a financial aid counselor asap. :)
