Any 1 Year Accelerated BSN Students Out There?

Published

I am starting a 1 year accelerated BSN program at Barnes Jewish College in St. Louis in May. Just hoping to hear from some fellow 1 year program people about their programs. I'm pretty nervous about starting, it just seems like it's going to be SO intense. I will be happy to be done in a year though!

Anyway anyone have anything to say about their experience that will help me?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Saymo82,

I'm about to start the accelerated BSN program this July at the University of South Alabama and I'm excited as well. I've talked to several people who have completed an accelerated program and they tell me that YES it is intense, but the pace of the course keeps you so busy that you really don't pay attention to the year passing right on by, I hope this is the case with me. The only problem that I have with the accelerated programs is that they really don't recommend you working and I'm really not in a position to not have a job especially with the current economy. What do you plan on doing as far as your finances go? What was your first degree in? How long have you been out of school? :heartbeat

Well luckily for me my husband makes enough (barely) to cover rent and expenses, so while I'd rather be able to have a job as a tech or something to gain experience, I will be alright without one for the year. As far as paying for the program I'll be taking out student loans (again...)

My first degree was from 2004 from Michigan State University in Interdisciplinary Studies Social Science: Human Resources with a Psychology Cognate... what does that translate to you might ask? Basically nothing. I really had no clue what I wanted to do when I was in school the first time around, so I thought getting any degree would get me a job, turns out I was wrong. Really wishing I had figured out I wanted to be a nurse when I was 19, it would have saved me a lot of time, money, and grief! Oh well, such is life.

I'm starting a program at Villanova this May, but am waitlisted at UPenn. Is anyone else currently on Penn's waitlist?! I had my heart set on going there, but I'll be happy at Villanova if things don't work out.

lana2010, I'm planning on taking out loans/depending on financial aid. It's unfortunate, wish I didn't have to, but I'll pay them back someday. :) I'm definitely not going to try to work during the BSN portion, I want to do well in my classes and always end up working too much. My first degree was in Bio and biopsych and I graduated in 2005.

Amen, all of our situations sound a lot alike. Unfortunately, I'm going to end up taking out more loans too. I graduated in 2007 with my biology degree which added up to not being much because I've never used it, but like saymo I was young and I didn't know what I wanted to do. I'm hoping that everything will work out with the accelerated program, I just can't wait for it to be over with!!! :heartbeat
