Hi, I currently live in Western MA and am considering relocating to Volusia County, FL. I am an LPN with 2 years experience in LTC/skilled nursing/rehab. I work in a large nursing and rehabilitation center. The unit I work on is currently looking into getting their acute care certification. Within the unit, we have a respitory wing with 20 trach & vent patients. I have learned alot and am always looking to learn something new. What facilities do you reccomend in FL? What are the staff:patient ratios? Last, the all important question...what is the pay scale?

Hi Shelinea, I came across this thread just now, looks like it was posted a few months back, but no one replied.
There is PLENTY of work for LPN's in Volusia County, LTC agency, homecare etc. And with your acute skills, you wouldn't be hard pressed at all. Hospitals around here DO hire LPN's, some anyway, and our scope of practice is generally close to the floor RN's. Most in this area allow us to do our own IV pushes with proper certification.
.
Payscale wise, it is possible to make a decent salary, working LTC or agency, around $16-24/hr, but don't expect more than $15/hr in a hospital staff day position. Pool you can make more, but no benes.
Patient ratios in LTC can be horrendous, as a new grad with a couple days orientation, i was responsible for 30 patients on a subacute wing. When i moved to Med/Surg night position, I had 5-7 patients, and now CPCU I have 4-6 patients.
Good Luck:balloons:.
