Any thoughts about Piedmont Healthcare?

Published

I work in a facility that has just decided to merge with Piedmont. We are all a bit nervous about what to expect and have some questions.

1. Is the company good to work for overall? Or, is the pay fair, supplies and equipment available and in working order, and...well. We won't touch staffing right now.

2. Does The Piedmont system require or encourage nurses to take call? Some of us like the chance to earn extra cash, others would be happy to never work a call shift again.

3. Has anyone been through these sort of mergers before and have some ideas to get through any rough spots?

4. Is the EMR Epic, and is it difficult to learn? We are just finally getting comfortable with the EMR that rolled out last year.

5. We have a lot of ADN nurses. Will we get a chance to show we are enrolled in a BSN program or just shown the door?

Any input welcome. Thanks in advance.

I am currently in the RN residency program at Piedmont Atlanta. I can't answer all your questions because I have not worked for any other hospital before but I can tell you that the pay is good. As a new grad, I make more per hour (right around $26) than my best friend who has been working for Kennestone (Wellstar) for over 3 years.

Having just been introduced to EPIC, I think it's not too difficult to learn. It's a robust program but I think it is user/nurse friendly.

I only have my ADN and I got hired without any problem. I am enrolled in a BSN program but I will not start it until June 2016. They were okay with it starting a year after I got hired so I am sure it will be no problem. To this day I do not understand the difference between an ADN and a BSN, we take the same test, and make the same money, and the new BSN grads have no leverage over any of us ADN nurses. But that might be a biased observation?!

So far I have enjoyed working for Piedmont. I got 3 job offers within a week and I chose Piedmont because of their reputation and higher pay.. I hope this helps a little!

If you don't mind me asking. What unit/ floor do you work on? Is it Piedmont Atlanta Campus and what school did you graduate from?

I work at the Atlanta campus on 2 North which is an oncology/gynecology unit and I like it so far! I graduated from Georgia Highlands in Rome and will be getting my BSN thru the same school online.

Specializes in ICU.

I work at Piedmont Atlanta as well and do enjoy it. So far, this system is one of the highest paying systems in the metro area.

Call shifts seem to be unit specific, and have been few for my unit.

Epic isn't bad....just takes a little getting used to. The tiny print can be a pain.

Hope this helps.
