Internships are SO valuable, but those are usually already hired way before summer. Those really help someone get a job plus it is real nursing over the break. If I could recommend anything to a person in nursing school, it is to get a job at a hospital (one you want to work at if possible). Whoever works at a hospital has first interview for nursing job (I found out this spring) and even those of us who get great grades, have experience, and are good at interviewing can't even get an interview due to not having a connection at the hospital. I, fortunately, was able to get a job out of my preceptorship but had I not had that "in" I would be hurting. Nurses aide, tech, anything to get in the door. If you are only able to volunteer some ideas are: LTC facility, giving hospital tours, general volunteer work at the hospital.
