Any recent Georgia Perimeter students here?

I've read the threads on this site about how bad GA Perimeter's nursing program is. I am taking pre-reqs there now and not sure if I will be going to nursing school in GA (may relocate) but it's still a possibility that I may try to do it at GPC. Has it gotten any better? I'd like to hear from students that have been in the school in 2007. Also, is it possible to work part time if all general studies courses/science are completed and you're only taking the nursing part? And finally, is there a difference between the Lawrenceville campus and Clarkston, like which one has better instructors?

I'm in the program now.....I don't agree with about 80% of what I read on the board. However, some of the info is true. I do believe that there is some degree of difficult at all nursing schools, though some are really glamorized.

Feel free to PM me for your detailed questions and I'll be glad to answer. Good luck with your classes and with choosing the "best school for you."

You simply have to look around at the different GPC-related threads to hear from a good sampling of recent GPC students on exactly how things are. You'll see the good and the bad and then you can just decide what's best for you.

You can check the thread titled "Thank You Note to GPC's Nursing Program" for a sampling from several recent students. There are other threads that will inform you on what you can expect also.

The bottom line is you have to make the decision that's right for you. What numerous others including myself have attempted to do is make others aware of what to expect if they take the risk and choose GPC's program. You may get in and you actually may graduate. Imagine that! However, I was told by one of the nursing professors during my first term in the program that it is the norm for students in GPC's nursing program to fail out and have to re-apply to get in. She even said that if she had to go through GPC's nursing program she probably would not make it.

I wish you the best in whatever you decide.

I will say that if you want to enjoy Nursing school, then GPC is not for you. Its good if you want to just get through it fast and cheap. I will say that I do feel very prepared for the real world of Nursing but I am sure the price was a few yrs off my life due to stress LOL

There are many people that do end up repeating semesters for various reasons.....and they go on to be great nurses.

I dont think that there is a big difference between Clarkston and Lawrenceville. There are good and bad instructors at both. Just decide based on location and you would be fine in that respect.

But overall, I will say that I think every Nursing school is probably hard.....but at GPC you have to deal with some disorganization and some "rules of the program" that make it almost impossible at times.

Good Luck :)

Hello to all,

This is my second semester in the GPC nursing program and I would like to tell everyone, all the horror stories that you heard about the program .... IS TRUE~!!!!

If you have other options, don't think twice, choose your other options. I regret joining this program, I regret it everyday. I definately don't regret my decision on wanting to enroll in nursing school, but I didn't expect a nursing school to be so unorganized, so unhelpful to their students, have an unfair grading policy, create multiple ways for students to fail, and have such an unfriendly staff. I like to think of this as a reality show, where everyday they look to eliminate the weakest link .. trust me, this is not an overexaggeration.

I am currently looking to transfer to another nursing program.

Sorry if this message got out a little too late. Nursing is definately a wonderful profession that I would love to see myself fulfill one day, but I know that staying in this program will strip me of that privilege.

And that my dear friends is the honest truth about how I view this program.

Specializes in Medical Floor RN.

Well....here I am again speaking about GPC. I am a returning student to the program and will go back to Mother/Baby/Peds in Fall 2008. I didn't pass this recent semester but I cannot totally blame the program. I had a lot on my plate both personal and school-related. Although the program does have its flaws like the disorganization issue among others, it is a great program to learn how to be a good and competent nurse. There is an excellent new dean that is working on all the kinks and yes, it is difficult, but if you look into an ADN/ASN program, none of them are a piece of cake because you are cramming a lot of material into 2 years of schooling.

When I first entered the program, I sent out a raving mad post on here in Fall of 2006 but soon realized as the semester progressed that I was truly thankful for how hard it was because it has made me a better nursing student and will make me into a better nurse.

My advice to anyone thinking about the program is to go to the school, talk with some of the students there and the instructors and make up your own mind. There are many wonderful instructors there, but there are a few that need to work on their teaching skills and some that need to work on their social skills, but overall, it is worth giving a chance. Any school that you look into and visit is going to have a problem or several problems.

For anyone already in the program, use the resources that are available to you for help before it is too late. ASK FOR THE HELP!! Most of the instructors are very willing to sit down with you and help you understand a concept and if you don't mesh well with that instructor, find another one.

It takes a lot to make it through nursing school and I know where I went wrong the first time and I know what I must do to pass and become an RN, but I cannot for one minute totally blame the program or else I wouldn't be going back.

Good luck to all of you and God bless in whatever path you decide to take.

:uhoh3:I got my acceptance letter yesterday and was denied as well. SOB!@!

I made awesome grades in math and science (A's and B's only) and my overall GPA was a B. Net score was in the 70's as well. What the?????

I am totally bummed and and considering giving up. I just can't imagine waiting longer to get accepted somewhere else.
