Hi all,
I'm writing to see if any Psych NP's are working in sleep medicine or know of others that are doing it.
The reason I ask is I am going to be starting a PMHNP program and while I do want to work in mental health obviously I also have a interest in sleep disorders and am just curious if I would be employable in this area down the road. Another thread on allnurses brought up the question of whether or not a PMHNP would have the ability (training, legal, etc.) to treat sleep apnea (prescribe CPAP/BIPAP) and since that's 90% of the patients in some clinics, it's an issue.
I know that sleep clinics regularly recruit NPs and don't seem to ask for a specific specialty, and that training and continued education credits on sleep medicine are available. Not really looking for comments about how sleep medicine is lame, etc (lol) unless you have NP experience in it. Thanks-

I think it's very appropriate for PMHNPs. I think sleep is fascinating. It's typically pulm and neuro but fine for psych too. Aside from learning about CPAP, BiPAP, MADs, etc., how are you with ECGs and EEGs?
