What do you think about new admissions being suspended?

For those of you that don't know Pensacola Junior college is delaying admitting Jan RN students until Aug AND no LPN students will be admitted until Jan 2006.

Not enough teachers. Well, duh...you're asking MSNs to work for a little over 30 grand a year. Who in their right mind WOULD do that? :o I make that as an LPN.

Myself? I finish career mobility this week (a course for LPNs to transition to RN school)...and starting in Jan I am in Nursing Processes 3. There will be about 80 NUR 3 students (generic and LPN-RN).

Heya Michelle! Looks like not much has changed. :uhoh21: I graduated from the LPN program in 93'. Live in the Midwest now. Ya'll get any snow?

hey michelle,

maybe you can enlighten me a little. I just graduated PJC LPN program. I think I would really like the work schedule of a private practice or the like (two very busy daughters). The only thing I cant seem to find out about is the pay. I hear lpns make the most in LTC (starting around $12/hr), then the hospitals ($ 10/hr), and that in private practice they make crap. I just cant seem to get any numbers as far as salary. For me its not a "where I can make the most money issue". I have a husband w/ a decent career who has supported us for years. I am doing this because I really want to, so if I have to make a little less than most to be able to work where I will be happy, that is ok. I just dont know how much less. Rumor has it, lpns probably dont make much beyond minimum wage ($ 7 or 8/hr). Have you any knowledge on this. I am also crazy about either peds or L&D, but am told that LPNs cant get on at the hospitals around here, working in these fields. ??????? Any words of wisdom? I just know I want to get out there and get started, somewhere!!! I feel like "I dont know what I want to be when I grow up!"

Skye, no snow. Thought we were going to get some the week of Christmas but it turned out to just be sleet. Don't want it anyway. :uhoh3: :rotfl:

nolefan,

I'm not really sure about starting pay. But, one new LPN that started on the SNF at Baptist told me she makes about 11 an hour. I've heard that Carpenter's Creek might try to snow you into taking about 8 an hour. Other than that, I think the starting rate is between 10-12. 10 would be good for a doctor's office. 12 for a nursing home. Well, maybe not "good" but it's what the rates are. :uhoh3:

I make 14 at a home for the developmentally disabled...and 16 base PRN at a nursing home. At the NH I get from .50 to 1.75 shiff-diff depending on the shift and the day.

As far as peds and L&D...have you tried sacred heart? I would apply. I believe there are some LPNs that work there.

thanks michelle for the insight
