Any OR nurses in the Cleveland, OH area?

Published

I will be graduating in May of 2006 (8 months) and I really want to work in the OR. If anyone is an OR nurse in the Cleveland, Ohio area I would appreciate some advice! Like, do they hire new grads in the OR? Where's the best place to work? How do I improve my chances of getting in the OR? Any input would be great! Thanks!

First of all, gratulations on your upcoming graduation!

I know nothing about Cleveland, but I do know that The Cleveland Clinic is consistently rated as one of the top hospitals in the country. You owe it to yourself to at least check the facility out.

Thanks for replying! I know the clinic very well....my daughter has been going to a doctor there for the past nine years. Great medical care, however I have heard that they are terrible to their nurses. I am going to apply there because I try not to listen to all the hearsay.

I actually work at the CCF/OR. We have several openings in many services. We are hiring new grads! Call to arrange a shadow day!

I have also heard that Cleveland Clinic does not treat their nurses well and are currently very understaffed.

A classmate of mine works there as a tech, graduates in December and has commited to work there. She is sick over it. At her location, they are required to wear locating devices, and if nurses are in a patient's room more than THREE minutes doing morning initial assessments, they are asked by management what took so long...They track where they are every moment, and frequently are confronted about their time-management. I am sure this atmosphere varies by unit and location ( for example, OR may be a completely different story...the above poster sounds happy there), but I would be very careful before accepting a position there.

To mamrn,

Thanks for the reply. I actually attended the nursing fair at the clinic a few saturdays ago (where you there?). I am actually going to shadow and interview in December, I am very excited. Thanks again for the info.

To LeesiBug,

I have heard the some nurses are very unhappy at the clinic and I have also talked to nurses that have worked there for years and love it. I think anywhere you go there is going to be pros and cons and I do know of serveral other hospitals that I have had clinicals at that track their nurses with "homing" devices. I believe your job is what you make of it and the grass is not always greener, you have to take the good with the bad and the clinic is rated one of the best hospitals in the world for patient care and that's really what it is all about.....

Thank you both for your replies...they were very helpful.
