Hi, how hard was it for you to get into Owens? Was there a wait and do you know their pre-reqs?
It was 10 yrs since I had been in HS before I decided it was time to go to college. BUT I did it! And I got all A's and B's too...so if I can do it, anyone can!! There was no wait for the LPN course, but there is a 2 yr wait for the RN course.
My prereq's were...Math 090 and 091 (but I've heard you have to take 128 now??) psy..which was a blast, Mr. Newcomer is the best...comp 1, nutrition and anatomy and phis. 121...which wasnt' terrible.
Glad you're doing well! :) Do you know if you have to have the math done before you can enter the program? I have everything but the math done...
I'm sorry, I left out chemistry...yea, Maths a must! Theres this whole progression...math, then chem, then a&p...

I have my ATI comprehensive tomorrow, then I'll be done with the LPN at Owens in Toledo.
I applied to both the RN and LPN at the same time. I got in right away for the LPN, and had one semester to wait for the RN. So, I deferred the RN one semester (start in Jan), and did the LPN over this year.
The pre-reqs are very different for the LPN and RN. Many of my classmates took a general human anatomy course (one semester), and high school classes counted for the math, chemistry, and english. As long as you earned a C in HS in those courses, they are counted.
As for the RN, you've got to either do the direct from high school route, or the pre-reqs from college route. You need gen psych, anatomy and physiology I and II, microbiology, and maybe something else I can't remember. Also, there's generally a wait, with GPA and competitive admissions.
As for the two year wait, that's not the case always. If you've got good grades (I earned As in every RN pre-req and applied with a 3.9 GPA), they seem to make room for you. Like I said, I had a one semester wait. I was able to choose the Jan '09, though, just because I wanted to do the LPN first (so glad I did-excellent program). The pharm and nutrition from my LPN will go toward the RN, but since I'm not doing the LPN-RN progression, nothing else from the actual LPN transfers. It's only one class, though (Fundamentals), that I have to take over.
well, I'm glad you got into the program early, I was told by everyone I talked to that it was a good 2 yr wait...but I guess it takes some people 2 yrs to finish all those pre reqs!
Yea,we (lpns) had to take psy. class too..i loved mine! I think RN's have to take a medical terminology and a basic computer skills class as well???
