Any Oakland University grad students here?

Published

Hi there! I'm jumping into your state's forum hoping to find other Oakland U grad students or anybody who's researched their programs or applied. I'm especially interested in their post-master's CRNA certificate, but would be happy to hear any comments on the school and their education! I attempted posting the grad forums without luck. Hopefully someone here will be able to help me out.

I was also surprised at OU's grading scale for nursing courses. It does seem harsh to me also. But I plan on attending OU for my master's anyway. If you still want to attend OU for your BSN it might be a good idea to speak with a counselor and explain how the GPA impacts students who want to go elsewhere for a master's. It would be good for them to know why someone is not considering their program.

That's true. I will mention it to them and maybe they will have some information that will change my mind - who knows?

But for now I see a few reasons to go to WSU instead of Oakland:

1) The grading scale. I need my GPA to reflect my true performance.

2) Beaumont doesn't give any preference to Oakland graduates for their CRNA program (I asked this at this year's orientation). So there is no guarantee, or even a higher chance, of getting into their program for me to plan around something like that.

3) I think their grading scale may have to do with the classes being 100% online, which they always try to make harder to ace than standard courses. Based on what I heard of most of the classes are very paper intensive. Papers and online classes are not difficult to get As in, but if requiring 100% to have a true A (a 4.0) then that is another thing. I don't live too far from WSU or have a problem attending lectures if that's what it takes.

4) While very impressed with Beaumont's anesthesia program outwardly, WSU's is older and very well known and respected, and about $10,000 cheaper. That, along with reason 2 makes me not want to set my mind on going to Oakland/Beaumont.

It seems to me that you have 10,000 good reasons to go to WSU! I'm in the middle of an OU online BSN course right now & I must say I prefer the lecture format. Good luck whatever you decide.:)
