I'm new here, and I work in a birth center. Are there any others like me? Anyone here *ever* work in an out of hospital area in regards to labor, delivery, and post partum? If you transitioned to the hospital, what was that transition like?
I will be going back to school soon, and so will be working agency nursing for a while. Two of my assignments will be doing post partum on mother/baby units. I have never worked on a mother/baby unit in a hospital before, and was just wondering if anyone here could give me some tips on making that transition.
Thanks!

I have only worked in the hospital, sometimes with some EXCELLENT midwives. I WISH to work in a midwife-run birth center one day. That is my dream.

Im not a nurse but I work as a midwife assistant in a birth center and as a doula in the hospital. I start RN school in September. I know that from my experience the nurses in our hospitals here are overworked and often not patient with moms. They are medicalized and interventionistic due to policy and such. I am sure it will be a hard transition for you to get used to but you will be an asset!! Good luck!!
