Any NC "graduates" of the Alternative Program to Discipline with relapse experience?

Nurses Recovery

Published

I am an NP who actually completed the alternative to disicpline program. Unfortunately, I had a VERY brief relapse, thank GOD, but I was suspected of diverting at work. I am now on administrative leave pending investigation. I did a drug screen. I am not sure if it will come back positive. I used Subutex TWICE. My boss wrote in for that special test for Subutex. It has been 3 days since I used last.

My question is this...can I repeat the alternative program? Should I go ahead and voluntarily surrender, resign, etc or wait for the drug screen results.

I am honestly thinking about using my MSN in some other capacity. I had 5 years clean and this is my 3rd relapse.

Please learn from me and do something EVERY day to put your recovery first.

Thanks

Dear Beverly 913 Hi I am an NP as well but in Pa. I hope you are ok and sober thats the most important issue. I think it depends on NC rules and regs of the BON. If the test is negative and you didnt admit to using then your job Should be ok I would assume? However if your test is positive or someone suspects you were using then thats a different story and I dont think anyone but the BON can answer that question. I would imagine it would be starting the program over again but Im not sure. Maybe it would be better for you to get into some other area of Nursing ,like you said, teaching ect. to maintain your sobriety. My DOC was alcohol so I feel ok using my NP license. I hope you are well and stay sober thts most important! Inbox me if ya want to discuss more.....
