I am cosidering going into a position at an Elementary School: School Health Nurse. Anyone out there in Maryland work as a School Nurse? IF so, let me know how you like it and do you enjoy elementary, middle or high school better? Thanks for any input.

Also applied for an Employee Health Nurse and Utilization Case Management Manager. Not sure out of the three, what I want to do. Working all this time four plus year in ICU is taking a toll on me and plus working the night shift. Trying to get away from lifting as much as possible.

Thanks for any insight!

Hi there!

i've worked for CARE Resources in baltimore. They hire prn nurses to fill the gaps at schools as school nurses in the city.

it was interesting, but found it to be a bit boring. maybe also b/c i was just doing it as a fill in and was at diff schools every week. (so never was vested). but sounds like you could use some down time! :)

good hrs though - scratch that - GREAT hrs! not as good pay though. (trade-off i guess).

i'd post this on the school health forum. you'll prob get more responses.

good luck!

Hi Evelyn,

Hello I am a school nurse in pg county, Maryland. I currently work with an agency but I gotta tell you, I love school nursing. It's rewarding. I prefer elementary school though. (I look young and don't think the high school students would take me seriously). I'm considering joining the county but there are some stipulations if you want to switch from aganecy to the county but I love it. You care for and grow with the students and staff. It's some paperwork but I like it much more than bedside nursing. I know yu have different options out ther but I'd highly recommend that you try for the school nurse!

Hello,

I am currently a school nurse for an agency in PG county, MD. I was looking to see if anyone knew about any school nursing positions in private schools. See b/c I work for an agency, there is a clause that prohibits me from transferring to the public school system until 6 months ahve passed. I love school nursing so I wanted to see if I could get hired permanently as a school nurse for a private school.

Thanks for any insight guys!
