I did a practicum at ahospital for my masters (still there actually) and i loved the nurs practitioners and what they do. My husband is a nurse as well. I would like to get my NP after my bsn. I applied to get my msw bc i had no idea what I wanted to do. The fact that NP make a lot more than MSW seems to help as well :) What is your motivation to go get your bsn? can those dual degrees work together at all?
I would actually like to become a NP eventually as well specializing in women's health. I absolutely love science and I love problem solving and I thought that nursing would be a career where I could continual learn. Also, I have a 15 month old son and going through the pregnancy and labor really intrigued me and I absolutely loved learning about the whole process and talking to all the nurses. I'm hoping my masters will help me if I go towards the management side also if I decide to do some work with nonprofit health agencies. My masters focus is non-profit management. Are you taking any prereqs in the Spring?
I am taking Microbiology in the spring...and applying to indiana wesleyan...i am taking the TEAS test this friday-so I will let you know how that goes. Congrats on your baby! :) I am going to take chem and the two courses i have left required for marian's program in the summer. I have sort of not gotten my hopes up for IUPUI's program because my pre req gpa is only a 3.6... Where arey ou applying?
I have looked into Indiana Wesleyan, but I cannot move and its too far away to drive. I have also looked into IUPUI, but you have to have your prereqs completed two semesters before you apply. I may still consider IUPUI, but right now I'm leaning towards Marian. It's the best program for what I need especially with a baby. I have a ton of prereqs to complete. Micro, Chem (my undergrad Chem was accepted for some reason), Anatomy, Physio, all the nursing prereqs, Sociology, and the Theologies. Does your husband enjoy being a nurse?
I am taking chemistry and anatomy prereqs this fall. Well the classes start Oct 19th. I just previewed the syllabi for both classes. I have a BA in Chemistry and have been working in various labs as a scientist over the last 10yrs but I'm still kinda nervous about taking classes again. I have never taken anatomy, physio, micro or stats and those are also prereqs I have to take.
kjj007,
Yes I am taking them both online. I assume the tests are taken online as well on our personal computers. I know for the nursing classes students have to go to the MAP office to take tests. I viewed the syllabi last night and now I'm thinkink ok am I really ready for this? lol
Which prereqs have you taken? How were they?
I took Chemistry and Anatomy online through Marian. I took Lifespan Dev. through IUPUI, Micro and Physio through Ivy Tech, both Theologies through MAP, Abnormal Psych. through MAP and Nutrition through Marian. I finished all the prereqs or general ed requirements before I started the program. It helps out to get them out of the way.
