I am persuing to be a lactation consultant on top of my RN. Are there any in the group? If so I have some questions...........

The IBLCE is the only organization I can through?

Wanted to take my Lactation Management Course through Breastfeeding Support Consultants Center for Lactation Consultants: Course 511:Lactation Consultant Exclusive Home Study.......have you heard anything of this course?

How will I make my clinical hours ligimate, I do breastfeeding assistance daily at work, how do I document them and have them count?

Also how long did it take you and how did you go about it?

Thanks any info will help.

Hi momx4

I'm also an RN,BSN pursuing my IBCLC. I "plan" to sit for the exam in July. I can most certainly help you out, give you some pointers. Especially with documenting your breastfeeding contact hours. :) PM me or email me at my email address on my profile. I look forward to hearing from you. If you want a quicker reply, email me...I don't often check this site as much as I would like.

take care

Hi!

I'm doing my cert through UCSD Extension. You can do the pre-req for that online, which I'm doing while still living in New Orleans (I do clinicals here).. but for the year course to prep for the exam, you have to get to California for a M/T every month or so, for about seven months.

The great thing about it though is that the prof has a handy worksheet you can figure your clinical hours up on... super useful! She was instrumental in determining what Lactation Consultants need to do, so what she says should pretty much go...

Hope this helps!
